We're delighted to share the theme of the 2026 Black Muse Sculpture Park Exhibition, curated by R. Esinam Damalie: "What Seeks Us Is Better Than What We Seek."

Bringing together eight artists, the exhibition invites us to reconsider our relationship with the world around us; the memories held in our surroundings, and the possibilities that emerge when we open ourselves up to the unfamiliar.

"What does it mean to be astonished? To encounter something that exceeds our understanding, interrupts our expectations, or reveals to us the limits of what we know?" Damalie asks in her curatorial statement.

Set within the Black Muse Sculpture Park in Benin City, the exhibition brings art, plants, and sound into conversation and creates space for new ways of seeing. Swipe for more information on the exhibition.

This November, from the 7th to the 10th, experience "What Seeks Us Is Better Than What We Seek" at the Black Muse Art Festival. Prepare to be astonished!

ART X Meets… Victor Ehikhamenor

This year, Victor Ehikhamenor (@victorsozaboy) returns to ART X Lagos in a new capacity as the first Nigerian artist to participate in Art Across Borders.

His relationship with the fair spans a decade including exhibiting at the inaugural edition in 2016, contributing to ART X Talks over the years and presenting Ulin-nóifo, The Lineage That Never Ends in 2022.

In this conversation, Victor reflects on that journey, what continues to excite him about ART X Lagos, and the importance of passing on the knowledge and opportunities gained along the way to emerging artists.

We’re pleased to announce the minds behind this year's Ázágba Pavilion: architect, designer, and researcher Juachi Obi and Tobiloba Akibo, a Lagos-based practising landscape architect committed to ecology and conservation.

The pair draw on the vernacular of the Nigerian home to shape a pavilion built from a single repeated triangle.
Fabricated from wood, straw, jute, and stone, the pavilion brings together many disparate pieces into a grand whole.

See the pavilion at #BMAF2026, November 7–10, Benin City.

We’re thrilled to announce this year’s Ázágba Pavilion, rising at the center of the Black Muse Sculpture Park!

Built from a single repeated triangle, the pavilion draws on the architectural language of the Nigerian home, bringing individual elements into a grand whole. It follows last year’s pavilion and continues the Black Muse Art Festival’s exploration of architecture, materiality, and the possibilities of shared cultural space.

Designed by @juachiobi and @tobiloba_x0 , the structure is made from wood, straw, jute and stone, and lined with native plant species. The pavilion is designed to grace the sculpture park for a year and eventually return to the earth.

This November, from the 7th to the 10th, you’ll be able to experience the Ázágba Pavilion at the Black Muse Art Festival in Benin City.

Sustaining the Otherwise presents Unsettling All Things Endlessly, a collaboration featuring a residency at Angels&Muse for artist Andrea Chung, an interdisciplinary public program at CCA Lagos, and an artist talk and presentation for the Black Muse Art Festival, Benin City.

The collaborative program Unsettling All Things Endlessly centers around an exploration of the concept of rematriation, and everything that entails, including epistemic restitution and the importance of indigenous and ancestral knowledge, and the potential for spiritual and cultural repair through memory work. The program is guided by an unruly, disruptive, and disorderly approach to dismantling coloniality and the restitution industrial complex.

Within this conceptual context, the program features artists whose work conveys the beautiful otherwise and offers a viable alternative to the patriarchal mindset that still seems to dominate conversations around restitution.

The program includes a short film screening and an artist talk with Andrea Chung, artist in residence at Angels & Muse, in conversation with Roli O’tsemaye Afinotan, Curator and Artistic Director of Angels & Muse. It also features two live performances: Frail Body by Samuel Udoh and Flo by Oluwatosin Oyee.
