Today feels like a good day for a #tbt, courtesy of an old photo album shared with me by my Aunt Romkje while visiting her at her home in Koog aan de Zaan.

This 8 year old had no idea what adventures, challenges, triumphs, heartbreaks, and turning points were ahead of her. She thought so many things about what she was supposed to be, and here, at 31, I find myself more and more interested in all those things I thought I was NOT supposed to be. Bold. Fearless. Sensitive. Emotional. Unique. Different.

It is no coincidence that as I embark on this trip, on the beginning of this new year of life, it is a New Moon in Virgo — a time to realign with your integrity and live by your own code, following your own unique path. It may seem like an insignificant, odd number, but 31 is not insignificant or odd in the grand scheme of my life. It is a point of deep reflection, of intentionality, of fighting for what is and is not worth the effort, and showing up, not for anyone else’s benefit, but for my own.

Feeling like sharing this morning. Those who know me know that I don’t talk about my 9-5 job very often, and when I do, it’s seldom celebratory. I have been on a journey in the past five years — it has included some incredible highs and some truly devastating lows. Most of this has been a battle in my own mind to understand what I want from my life, who I am, and how I can serve and be worthy of the time and gifts I have on this earth.

Over the past few years, I have had moments where my work was everything to me, to the point of losing my identity. And I have had moments where it felt like a lead weight dragging me down. But currently, as I embark on a new role, a new chapter for my organization, and the expansion of my team, I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude to have landed in a spot where I feel so excited and optimistic about both of my careers. I am proud of my work, but I know it does not define me. I do not separate or hide the two parts of my life from each other. I share yoga and meditation with my amazing colleagues, who continue to astound me with their support, curiosity, and appreciation for what I do outside the office. And I try to bring my knowledge from the corporate world to the organizations I partner with, and I am attempting to bridge the gap between these two very different worlds with authenticity, because they are both, authentically, part of me.

All 3 of these pictures were taken during an offsite meeting in Atlanta last week, my first business travel in almost 3 years. I got to spend time with my amazing team, who truly make it fun showing up every day. They are some of the smartest people I know, and they teach me something new every day. And I got to meet about two dozen new teammates, all of whom are also brilliant, dedicated, and fully embracing this adventure we’re on.

The lows will be back. But I’m riding this current high for all it’s worth. Embrace the opportunities in front of you. You may not know why, but they’re there for a reason. You’re there for a reason. Don’t waste a moment wishing it were otherwise.

I had planned to post this some time ago, but as a brilliant teacher taught me, everything is perfect in exactly the state and moment it is in, including this post.

About one week ago, I gained a title I never thought I would aspire to, let alone achieve: Vinyasa Yoga Teacher.

For most of the 16 years that yoga has been in my life, “vinyasa” was a word I stayed away from. I chose to take this training hoping I would learn why, and maybe even challenge myself to see myself as a different kind of practictioner, a different kind of teacher. I discovered that, and so much more. I discovered the nature of the ever-evolving perfection of this moment. I learned that the abundance of the universe can be felt in blueberries, stars, and sperm. I discovered that sometimes your greatest teachers come to you in the most surprising ways. I felt the immense beauty in reuniting with your soul family. I discovered just how much my body, and my soul, were and are craving flow.

Thanks to Kripalu and this incredible program, vinyasa is no longer a word I fear - it is a word imprinted on my very heart. Along with a thousand memories I will cherish forever.

Our soul is not bound to this universe – no,
our soul can traverse all the universes that exist and have ever existed,
we are boundless,
limitless,
unafraid,
unrestricted by the “laws” of space and time.

we are infinite and
Infinitesimal
at once –

we are the single star and the entire galaxy in one,
and in both states we can see the trueness of our being.
we are all and one.

Knowing this, who cannot look upon their existence with wonder and joy?
