Late post, but I am so happy to announce that I have been spending my summer as a @pbrisingstars mentee under the mentorship of the brilliant artist and storyteller @artnerdforever ⭐

I am so grateful to have been chosen from over 4,000 applicants for one of 40 mentorships during the final year of the PB Rising Stars mentorship program. Huge thank you to @ebonylynnmudd, @kaileipewbooks, and @laylafallah for all their work in growing and sustaining such a supportive kidlit community! 🌟

How it's been going:

I have been hoarding a plethora of picture books from my local libraries, Zooming with my mentor and my Big @autumnleaflet and fellow Little @1105hrs_art to learn about the secret world of picture book writing & illustrating, and attending workshops with PB super stars such as @anooshadraws (I’ve been a loyal follower of Anoosha Syed on YouTube for YEARS and was SO excited to learn about picture book spreads from her!) and @quartezh (who led an amazing workshop about poetry and picture book writing!)

Another beautiful panel experience: The State of Collective Resistance in Filipinx Studies. From the Community College to the R1 to the CSU, our communities are finding ways to continue healing, resisting, & building across solidarity.

As always, major salamat to sis Dr. @angeltrazo for the beautiful forever memory. taken in Honolulu, Hawaii by @angeltrazo

Come join CAPAS and PASU at the Grove House on Friday, April 17, from 5-6pm for a virtual talk on the history and implications of the ABG subculture in shaping the community and politics of Asian American college students.

Since 2018, the Asian Baby Girl (ABG) has been stereotyped as a conventionally attractive Asian American college student who loves boba, raving, and partying within Asian American social circles. However, the ABG also has roots in 1990s Southeast Asian gang culture and the import car scene. The evolving conversation around ABGs reveals how Asian American young adults both internalize and critique aesthetics of an Asian American identity enmeshed in the logics of neoliberalism and the model minority. taken in The Grove House at Pitzer College by @angeltrazo

Thank you @mesarefuge and @christine.g.cordero for bringing the Helen Toribio Kapwa Fellowship to life. I am absolutely honored to be part of the second cohort of Filipina American writers to celebrate Helen’s legacy through Fil Am storytelling ❤️

To my new sisters @mgbertulfo_writer and @starjassmin — thank you for making my time at mesa so magical. Thank you for trusting me with your stories and helping me bring my children’s book to life.

Next step, finding a literary agent for my new children’s book (if y’all have any recs, let me know) 💕 by @angeltrazo

Thank you to the ARC for getting me through my PhD program 😭💪🏽 This was where I benched a plate for the first time, made new friends and ran into friends, and worked out countless times to help ease my anxiety & depression. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this gym was one of the best parts of going to Davis. Much love to the staff at @ucdaviscampusrec taken in UC Davis by @angeltrazo
