Last Monday marked the beginning of the 21st edition of @flamencofest in London and I headed to the @nationalgallery to film a rare and beautiful performance of Baroque music and flamenco dancing born from the collaboration between viola de gamba player @fahmialqhai and flamenco dancer @patricia_guerrero_oficial.
This is a glimpse of what went on.

My story on Welsh seaweed is out in @guardian.

“It’s part of the Welsh DNA, like rugby and male voice choirs,” says local forager, chef and entrepreneur Jonathan Williams. “It’s packed with flavour, it’s 40% protein, healthy, it doesn’t take up land or require fresh water and it grows at a phenomenal rate. We should be shouting about it.”

He’s talking about seaweed. Despite the nearly 650 different species that grow on UK shores, seaweed is rarely thought of as a British food. Yet the red macroalgae Porphyra, commonly known as laver or nori, has been harvested for centuries in Wales, and is rooted in Welsh history.

I paired up with the brilliant photographer Ruth Samuels for @sisters_seen, a project by members of the @f22aop that aims to connect and celebrate the community of women and non binary people in photography by making portraits of each other.

@ruthsamuelsphoto is a documentary photographer who won the AOP Emerging Talent Award for her series The Beholder. She has also been shortlisted for the Portrait of Britain competition and received an honourable mention from the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards amongst other achievements. Everything Ruth does, her passion and desire for justice, her genuine interest in people and cultures and her commitment to amplify underrepresented voices stem from her religious faith so it seemed fit to meet at her local church in South London.

As the chairman of South East Water admitted this week to MPs what customers already knew, that they had “failed” to provide water to more than 24,000 properties in Kent and Sussex in November and December last year, people are still dealing with the consequences. Business owners had to close or reduce hours for ten days at the busiest time of the year for sales. Laura leads an independent bookshop in Tunbridge Wells and spoke out about the impact the water crisis had on small businesses and the need for the community to come together to help vulnerable people who were not being supported by the water company well into the water outage. This week the bookshop also had to deal with an act of vandalism so if you are thinking of buying any books check them out before looking any further! @stationbookstunbridgewells

‘Eastering’ with the best hot cross buns ever -also the biggest- made at @the_bakery_tw. I figured this was a good time to share the portrait I made of the owner, Jamie, a while back. He managed not only to keep a smile on his face but also to keep the door open during the water outage that affected Tunbridge Wells businesses and households for two weeks last December.

Recently I collaborated with @charliesangelskitchens, getting to know how this cafe in Tunbridge Wells reduces food waste, builds up community and alleviates poverty, it’s such important work they are doing.

It was a real joy to document what they do. Thank you to the amazing staff, volunteers and customers who participated in the short film for trusting me with the process.

And if you are in town, don’t miss the chance to do something for the planet and help others!

Delighted to have been asked to photograph Jorge Bedoya’s piano concert in London for @festelon. What a force of nature he is. A gifted musician in love with flamenco, also trained as an actor, he charms the audience with his self-deprecating stories and his musical wizardry.
