⭕ Man & Canvas. (Play coming from Spain) ⭕

Written by Alberto Iglesias @albertigo75, produced by Kendosan, performed by Javier Ruiz de Alegría, featuring voiceovers by Ramón Barea, and directed by Alberto Iglesias.

An artist who draws and speaks. A man who tries to describe who he is. With his artist's brush, with his words, he captures us in his world and invites us to reflect on art and life. He shares his phobias, his fears, his ghosts with us. He makes us see that art and life are, occasionally, cells within the same creative embryo.

⭕ The ‘S’ Is Silent ⭕

‘The ‘S’ Is Silent, winner of the FesTeLoff 2022 Audience Award, is a theatre piece about womanhood during Franco’s fascist regime in mid-XX-century Spain.

Written by @mariinacusi , produced by @mad.who.theatre , and performed by @isobel_sheard @dan.seorici @tommytukkah and @daisybensonxx , operated by @shannonhoughton2003

As Europe descends into what seems like a revival of fascist ideals, with several countries electing far-right parties to lead them, we believe we should look back into our not-so-distant past to see what happens when hate, bigotry, and a fascist government wins over a country.

⭕ Ripped at the Seams – (The Sewing Box) ⭕

Festeloff 2022 winner, 'Ripped at the Seams' was written by @lufer_99 , directed by @monica.cox , and performed by @paularodriguezsoy and @maite_jauregui

A failing theatre maker creates a play about her muse Rosa as a last attempt to persevere with the arts. With the help of her co-star, she journeys through someone else’s life in order to understand her own.

Rosa was a seamstress on the Hollywood sets of post-war Spain. She always wanted to step into the spotlight and now is her chance. As the actors weave through layers of reality, they explore what it means to become someone, to be someone and to be present.

Ser Actriz. Estar presente. As the theatremaker connects with who Rosa really is, she turns to speaking the same language: Spanish.

⭕ The Copla Cabaret ⭕

A provocative show exploring the passion and subversion of Spanish Copla in English, @thecoplamusical was written and performed by Alejandro Postigo.

Copla songs channel the queer, migrant experience, and this show is the identity quest of a migrant gay actor as he progressively transforms into his subversive drag persona, who reinterprets Copla songs in English.

No new Copla has been written since the late 20th century or performed outside Spain. However, in this show Copla songs rejuvenate into an inclusive, comprehensive and accessible version for audiences of all backgrounds that are presented with snippets of Spanish history in the lingua franca of musical theatre and cultural exchange.

⭕ Songs from a Golden Age. (Canciones del Siglo de Oro), by AURIC ( @auricsongsfromagoldenage )⭕

Inspired by fragments of plays and poetry by famous authors like Calderón de la Barca, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega, the adapted and reinvented texts are accompanied by experimental music by the French composer Arthur Astier.

An intimate dialogue between the past and the present in an ambience pervaded by melodies and verse, which allow us to listen to these stories again to enjoy them and reflect upon them.

Performed by @paularodriguezsoy and @arthur_wongastier

Paulownia is pretty amazing - it's one of the lightest of all hardwoods, but super strong and durable with it.🏋️‍♂️ It's also the fastest growing hardwood tree in the world!

We were lucky enough to be gifted an elderly Paulownia by @lincolnsinn in Holborn, London. Their much-loved tree needed felling and they were keen that we give it a second life.

We milled, air- and kiln-dried the tree and now have around 1.5m3 of stunning timber available for sale.

Apparently it's widely used in Japan to make stringed instruments - where it's known as 'Kiri' - and also to make surfboards!
