There are beautiful wine regions and there’s Barolo.

The hills sit heavy in golden dusty light each evening, making time feel slower. There is a sense that tradition is something precious, woven gently into every thread of Piedmontese culture.

You see it in a dish that belongs to one small town, made from a century-old recipe. A locanda that has been in the same family since before the First World War. In vineyard rows now tended by the fifth or sixth generation of hands.

Imagine what is known after that much time is poured into the same ground? Eventually, the smallest changes stop being small.

Knowledge passes from parent to child, over and over again, until attention becomes intuition. The land is remembered by people, and people are remembered by the land.

This is what devotion looks like.

Vintage 9. Tiny crop, caviar like berries, and a depth of color and concentration I’ve never seen before at @coalpitwine . This place has a lot to say.

With so much tension in these wines, I have no doubt they’ll be singing in ten years.

PS. Always hire interns cooler than you. A catasphoic blow to the ego, but a huge win for the winery. Thanks for all your hard work @emmakosicek and @distiltati - don’t stop keeping your bosses humble xxx. by @anikatlw

Heaven is a bouquet from the backyard, a friend’s smiling baby, a bike ride through dappled light, dancing all night with your cousins, gathering around the table for a 4 hour Easter lunch, a book on the beach on a Monday afternoon, browned summer grass, your best friend’s wedding, sunlight filtering through sheets on the washing line, a Monet sunset, a dirty martini made off the menu just for you, and a warm breeze through the palms carrying you back to family holidays long ago. by @anikatlw
