Everyone tells HRBPs: know the business.
Rohit Thakur, Group CHRO, Mahindra Group, says that's step 2. Not step 1.

Step 1 is knowing your own function so deeply that your questions carry as much weight as your answers.

Only then does "know the business" mean anything.

He also drew a hard line: a full calendar of HR work isn't the same as impact. His test — how fast and how well do you move the business from A to B?

This is the exact judgment we build inside the Strategic HR Business Partner Program, with 12 CXOs like Rohit.

Want the details? Comment "HRBP" šŸ‘‡

"Strategic HR" was never something HR gets to define.

The people on the other side of the table define it, and honestly, that's good news, because it means this isn't a gap you're meant to close alone.

Here's something we've watched up close over the years, at the @corporateshiksha HR academy, now at the @schoolofhr.in, and now heading into the 8th cohort of our Strategic HR Business Partner program.

The HRBPs who break through aren't the ones working the hardest.
They're the ones who genuinely understand what the business expects of them.

It sounds almost too simple to matter.
And yet it's one of the most underrated things in the whole profession, because how often does anyone actually get to hear it, said plainly, straight from a business leader?

Rarely. So we asked one to say it.

On the 26th, Pavan Kumar Mocherla, who leads @becton_dickinson BD's business across Greater Asia, is sitting down to tell a room full of HR professionals what business leaders really look for in an HR partner.

I talk about why this question matters in the video, but before you watch, I'm genuinely curious:

If a CEO or business head finished this sentence honestly:
"The one thing I actually need from HR is ___"
What do you think they'd say?

Drop your answer in the comments. I'll take the most common ones to Pavan on the 26th, and we'll hear how close they land to what he actually says.

Some professional experiences are hard not because they are rare, but because they are hard to name while you are living through them.

That is why this next @schoolofhr.in Office Hour matters.

This Thursday, on May 14, at 3 PM IST, I’ll be joined by Kripa Krishnamoorthy and Kamaljeet Kaur for a conversation on Lessons on How Resilient Leaders Rebound.

We’ll talk about professional setbacks, uncertainty, resilience, and what it really takes to rebuild confidence when your path takes an unexpected turn.

What makes this conversation important is not just the experience both leaders bring, but their willingness to speak about this theme with honesty.

If you work in HR or leadership, I believe this will resonate deeply, whether you are navigating change yourself or helping others through it.

25 years ago today, I walked into my first job at @citi with nothing but dreams.

No network. No framework. No idea what I was doing.

Here is the one thing those 25 years taught me that nobody talks about enough.

Thought to share with you all.

Ever noticed how we worry when our kids move cities,
while some families move their entire lives just to build ours?

Watching them this morning reminded me what gratitude really means.

They build homes they’ll never live in.
And somehow, they still smile through it. by @ankursethi

Across cultures and traditions, every society has a way of reminding us that light will always overcome darkness.

Dussehra is one such reminder.

It is not only about defeating evil outside, but about conquering the doubts, fears, and negativity within.

In today’s world, challenges often come disguised as uncertainty or pressure.

The choices we make define us.

→ Choosing courage over comfort.
→ Choosing truth over convenience.
→ Choosing kindness over indifference.

These are the victories that matter most, and they begin within each of us.

Wishing you strength, clarity, and peace this Dussehra. by @ankursethi

On this Teacher’s Day, I’m reminded that teachers come in many forms.

Not just in classrooms, but in every person we meet, every experience we go through, and every challenge we face.

At Corporate Shiksha, this is at the very heart of what we stand for, learning every day, from leaders, mentors, peers, and sometimes even from failure itself.

Gratitude shouldn’t be reserved for one day a year.

Today is a reminder to thank all those who’ve been our teachers, mentors, and supporters in this journey.

Here’s to celebrating learning, everywhere, always. by @ankursethi

Not all bias is loud. Sometimes, it’s so quiet you almost miss it.

In this episode of The Influencer Series, Sonal Kapur Sinha, Head of HR at Esme Consumer, shares why addressing subtle bias isn’t about pointing fingers—it’s about awareness and action.

From being passed over for opportunities to unspoken doubts about capability, these moments may seem small. But left unchecked, they hold back not just people, but progress.

Sonal’s take? Notice it. Name it. And respond with clarity, not conflict.

How do you address subtle bias when you encounter it? Share your perspective—your story might inspire change.
