Still grateful for the walk.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Birthdays have a way of making you look back at the year behind you.
Where you’ve been. The decisions you’ve made. The good ones and the questionable ones. 🤣

Having Nancy Hakala paint this mural was definitely one of my best.

How lucky am I to wake up every morning to this?

Beautiful, inspiring, and full of little things you might not notice at first.

My kind of inspiration. 💜🦄🌈 by @ann.trason

Second hike sans Moxie. 🥾💜

89 miles last weekend at Biggest Little Ultra, and now here I am in Mammoth, finding my way back onto the trails with my poles.

Trying not to be too greedy. There is so much I want to do, so many trails calling, but I’m learning that just because I can doesn’t always mean I should.

After months of not knowing when I’d be back out here, every step feels like a gift.

Horseshoe Lake, Lake Mary, and these mountains. More than enough for today.

One step at a time. Still learning that part. 😂❤️ by @ann.trason

First hike since fracturing my hip. Sans Moxie. Just my poles, a little determination, and whatever else I’m forgetting. 😂

One small step, but a pretty big one for me.

The beauty of the mountains around Mammoth is all the encouragement I need to get out there and try.

And I don’t mean to downplay all the wonderful people who have helped me through this chapter of my life. You know who you are. I’m grateful beyond words. 🫶

Not sure how far these legs will take me today. Doesn’t really matter. Just happy to be heading down a trail again. 💜 by @ann.trason

Pinch me! Look who I ran into in Mammoth today. Katie Asmuth!

Fresh off an incredible UTMB, 28th woman in 26:49:59. What a run on that course!

And here she was, just picking up snacks for her sons’ soccer practice. She was kind enough to stop and introduce herself. I was tickled pink ( ok, maybe purple). 😁

One of Mammoth’s superstars, and such a genuinely warm, down-to-earth person.

I love this crazy little running world of ours. You never know who might brighten your day while you’re out doing ordinary things.

Thank you, Katie! 💜 by @ann.trason

Ted Corbitt. The person I want to be when I grow up.

I mean that.

Ted was one of my mentors back in the day. And all these years later, he is still mentoring me.

Most people in our sport know what Ted accomplished. The first Black American to run the Olympic marathon, a pioneer of ultrarunning, a founder of the New York Road Runners, and the man who helped establish accurate course measurement. He ran extraordinary distances, including 303 miles in a six-day race in his eighties.

But those aren’t the things I think about most when I think of Ted.

I think about his humility. His kindness. His curiosity. His willingness to give so much of himself to a sport he loved, without needing recognition for any of it.

Ted understood something that I think can get lost in our sport. Running isn’t just about how fast or how far you go. It’s also about what you give back, how you treat people, and what you leave behind for the next generation.

I remember running a 100-mile race in New York in 1991. Ted showed up, and just meeting him gave me a lift. I went on to set a world record.

And Ted, being Ted, had another surprise. He brought a wedding anniversary cake for Carl and me. Candles and all! It was our first year wedding anniversary.

Imagine that. One of the greatest pioneers our sport has ever known, taking the time to celebrate someone else’s special day.

When I get home, I’m going to dig out that photograph. It still makes me smile.

Ted passed away in 2007, but his influence certainly didn’t end there.

As I get older, I find myself thinking less about the records and more about the people who helped shape my life. Ted is right near the top of that list.

I want to keep learning. Keep moving. Keep being curious. Keep finding ways to encourage others. And maybe, just maybe, grow into a little of the grace and generosity Ted carried so naturally.

Still working on it, Ted.

And still learning from you. ❤️ by @ann.trason

FAR the best high-protein energy bar out there? 🙋‍♀️

Not talking about everyday snacking. I’m talking about training, long miles, and when you need some REAL FOOD to keep the wheels turning!

Anyone agree? Or am I alone in my obsession? 😂

My dear friend Chris Rodarte, who just turned 70 (happy birthday AGAIN, Chris! 🎂), knows me well enough that he brought me TWO for the Biggest Little Ultra 48-hour this past weekend.

Just the kick in the pants I needed!

Awesome sauce! 💜🦄🌈 by @ann.trason

Biggest Little Ultra. What a weekend! 💜

Some races just get it. Biggest Little Ultra at Sparks Marina is one of them.

Beautiful sunrises, sunsets, lights on the lake at night, and lots and lots of circles. I never got tired of the view.

This is old-school ultrarunning at its best: good people, great volunteers, encouragement, laughter, food, and a real love for the sport. Nothing fancy needed.

And what better way to celebrate my friend Chris Rodarte turning 70! 🎂🎉

Congratulations to Chris and his wife, Shari, on their hard-earned 70 miles. Those miles didn’t come easy, which made them even sweeter. I’m so glad we got to share the weekend together.

Thank you to Todd and Carola Leigh and all the volunteers. You’ve created something special.

It was great seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and having Moxie along for another adventure.

I came to enjoy the weekend and see what the legs had in them. Mission accomplished.

Already on my calendar for next year.

Thank you, Biggest Little Ultra. Little in name, big in heart. by @ann.trason

All aboard the California Zephyr! 🚂🏔️💜

A long video, because some things are simply too wonderful to cut short!

Rolling over Donner Summit, listening to the conductor reminisce about the legendary Donner Party and their rather unfortunate dinner arrangements. His storytelling is absolutely priceless! 😂

A little history, a little dark humor, and a whole lot of spectacular Sierra Nevada scenery.

California, you never cease to amaze me. The beauty, the history, the stories. Every mile has something to tell.

It just doesn’t get any better than this!

Pinch me! 🚂🏔️✨💜 by @ann.trason

Little Dru knows something is up. 💜🐾

I swear she can sense I’m getting ready to leave for Sparks.

How I wish I could pack up both my fur babies and bring them along for the adventure.

Leaving Dru and Barner behind is always a little tug at the heart. They make home such a wonderful place to return to.

You’ll both be on my mind, my sweet girls. ❤️

And don’t worry, my sweet girls. Mom will be bringing home cat presents. Because no adventure is complete without a little something for the ones waiting at home. 💜🐾 by @ann.trason

Getting ready to speed-pack for Sparks! 🦄💜

Biggest Little Ultra 48 Hour at Sparks Marina with Chris Rodarte and his awesome-sauce wife, Shari. All three of us are taking on the 48 hours, and this one comes with a little extra celebration: Chris turns 70 next week! 🎂🎉

I hear there are still spots open. Come join us, or just come visit and witness the questionable life choices. 😂

Friday. 9 AM. Sparks Marina.

And introducing my newest crew member:

Sparkle Plenty 🦄✨
Every 48-hour adventure needs a little unnecessary unicorn magic.
Or, in my case, necessary. And mandatory. 💜

Here we go! 🦄💜 by @ann.trason
