Can you spot the moment of mental blank in this piece?

Yes, even after almost 20 years of experience on stage, it still happened… at a world-renowned competition!
Was it a lack of practice, too much stress, or both? We do everything we can to prevent it, but if it still happens, how do you handle it?

I’m definitely putting in the work to make sure it doesn’t happen again, but honestly, I’m proud of how I handled this one. It felt WAY worse in my head!

Has this ever happened to you? How do you react in those situations?

I’m just out here defying the odds! 💞
44 years old, dancing salsa for only 1.5 years… and now competing in a NATIONAL competition @canadasalsaandbachatacongress 😱💪🏽🔥

I LOVE social dancing….. babyyyy give me music and I’m throwing it down! 😅💃🏽 ! Social dancing is truly my happy place but with crippling anxiety, performing & competing was not on my bucket list…. And yet… HERE I AM 💪🏽💪🏽

To my Maestro @edsonvallon : thank you for creating a safe space for me to grow, make mistakes, and evolve at lightning speed. You allow me to show up as myself, authentically & unapologetically so 🥹🙏🏽 Your impact on my life is beyond words 💞🙏🏽 Blessings on blessings to you my brother! Love you lots!

To anyone scared to try something new:
DO NOT LET circumstances, setbacks, or fear define you. Put your crown on, add some flavour to your steps, and get comfortable with being uncomfortable because babyyyy that’s where greatness lives. ✨
DARE & GET OUT THERE!!! 🔥

Thank you to everyone for all the encouragements😘 and for contributing to my Salsa journey!!! Thank you for every dance, every smile, all the moments, the laughter…. It all means so much to a woman like me. 🙏🏽💞

Our costumes are by the best @ann_sofia_dancewear 😍

Ouuuuuu AGAINST ALL ODDS…. WE DID IT!!! @aikyharolahy 🔥
The cards were stacked against us… and yet, just like the rose that grew from the concrete, WE BLOOMED.

- I’m a 44-year-old single mom of 4
- I’m 20 years older than my partner Aiky 😱
- We put this routine together in just 2.5 months
- We have never performed this routine in a show, WE BROKE IT IN at the National competition @canadasalsaandbachatacongress (😅 we clearly live on the wild side lol)
- I’ve only been dancing for 1.5 yrs, and Aiky for 2 yrs ! 😱

Are we perfect? NO! We have so much room to grow. But this is proof that hard work, consistency, and dedication PAY OFF 🔥💪🏽🫡.

To all moms, single moms, & my over-40 ladies… LIFE IS NOT OVER!!! Keep your head held high, take the bull by the horns, and go after what sets your soul on fire 🗣️💞
If I am a testament to anything, let it be this: GET OUT THERE AND LIVE!!! 🔥🔥

Infinite gratitude to my partner @aikyharolahy …. Brother, WE DID IT!!! We fucking did it!!!! Thank you for thinking of me for this project and for always being such a motivating force behind our duo. What a journey, mannnn!!! 🙌🏾

To our Maestro @edsonvallon … thank you for being YOU! For seeing more in us than we sometimes saw in ourselves, for pushing us to never give up and for shaping this routine with so much passion and heart. We are so grateful. 🙏🏾✨

To everyone who encouraged us from near or far… BLESS YOU!! Your love, support, and energy carried us every step of the way 🥹💞

My costume and Aiky’s top are by @ann_sofia_design 😍🔥 Gurll thank you for having me looking & feeling like a million bucks! Jtaime fort! 😘

Video by @deyogolos_productions 😍! Thank you brother for being such a great videographer but also a real cool guy! 👌🏽🔥

Officially National Bachata Champions! 🏆

This choreography definitely pushed our dancing to the next level, and challenged us to do things we didn’t think we could 🇨🇴❤️🇨🇦

First of all, I want to thank my partner @caitclement for the immense discipline and commitment you brought to this project, for all your support, and for the incredible experiences we shared. This achievement is entirely yours—only the two of us know how much work went into making this happen. Congratulations on becoming a professional dancer; you deserve this more than anyone. ❤️

I am also deeply grateful to my mentor @juliancalderon.c I have learned so much from you, and you believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. Dancing by your side and learning from you has been an absolute honor, and we had so much fun along the way. 🇨🇴🙏🏼

A final thank you to @sacha_fomina for co-creating this choreography with Julian, for teaching me all the crazy lifts and tricks, and for supporting our journey from day one. Thank you to @luc.poulin.7 for always keeping up with us and guiding us to be better dancers. 💫

🏆 Competition Results

🥇1st Place – Pro-Am Bachata Showcase
🥉3rd Place – Pro-Am Open Showcase

It was never my dream to become a dancer—or a national champion, to be honest. I just wanted to play soccer hahaha ⚽️

But looking back, I can see how this journey completely shaped my life. I am endlessly grateful for the hard work we put in, everything I’ve learned over the last three years, and every single person and teacher who supported us along the way. 🙏🏼
