Anna and I got to know each other before we ever saw one another’s work. There were deep conversations. At the very end of the residency I saw her art during this conversation. It was a revelation. She spoke that made me think she was a beginner, she’s anything but that.

VSC @vermontstudiocenter is a remarkable, supportive and loving environment.

They support the artists who attend their residencies in every way possible.

They have offered FREE residencies to artists and writers who are recovering from the LA fires. That’s the kind of people we’re talking about.

After a devastating flood, they’re still rebuilding. I hope you will be moved to contribute to VSC.

From the moment I got to Vermont Studio Center, I felt uncontrollably, urgently happy. I worried I was overwhelming my new friends, but I couldn’t tone it down. The past year had been heavy with sickness and caretaking and grief, and I just felt so light and energized and HAPPY right away. I’d started treatment for Hashimoto’s a few weeks before and things were a little weird as I was bursting with ideas and excitement and happiness, but was having trouble with words. It was May and everything was in bloom and smelling delicious. Daffodils in May in Vermont are like nothing you’ve ever seen. I was almost hugging people in the street and telling them about my latest revelations and they were all so warm and encouraging back. Every lunch, every dinner, I was freaking out about the food, the company, and whatever brilliant thing the person across from me was saying that made me think of something in a new way, and connecting in a meaningful way to something I’d previously not known what to do with. Every interaction with everything felt like a collaboration, and permission to expand further. It was the best place to come back alive.
Thank you Vermont Studio Center Fellowship so much.
Thank you to my brilliant, talented cohort and visiting artists - it was thrilling to feel a likeness with these open, curious, and generous people. I could feel myself being so weird, and it was ok. I feel like in just a few weeks there I grew to accept myself more.
Thank you to the angels that are the entire VSC staff! VSC just has the best feeling and they are the reason why.
And thank you again to my wonderful November 2024 VSC Cohort who were with me every day. I was late to meals without Martyna and Shuai to come knocking at 5:45. I was nervous returning wouldn’t be as wonderful as the first time but it was just as necessary. I made some clay sculptures for the first time too! (Thank you Paolo, Lauren, and Jo for encouragement and loading and firing the kilns!)
I’ve been working in new ways since. by @anna_child_

Today is my birthday. I spent some of it under my prints at the Park Ave Armory at the IFPDA Fair (PS Marlowe, booth T-11 through Sunday!). I saw so much great work today and I’m so hungry now because I rushed to make my train home and somehow didn’t manage to eat anything all day I was so busy packing in all the art I could mange. It was wonderful. I am very grateful for so much love, support, and inspiring examples in my life. And thank you @phil_sanders_studio! Booth is smashing! taken in Park Avenue Armory by @anna_child_

It has been a sad time here in Baltimore. Mike’s mom, Faye Aline Houston, died last month after an extended illness.
One of the first things I immediately loved about Mike is what a true original he is. My only question early on, is it a red flag that he is so close with his mom? When I met Faye shortly after I understood both of these things.
I am so grateful that I have been at the dinner table with these two originals, speaking their unique movie, Old Time Radio, books, music, and television infused language, sparked with raucous laughter, over the past 8 1/2 years. And what delicious food it was! At the start of those meals we would hold hands and say “thank you!”. I felt a little uncomfortable with this tradition early on - why are we thanking God, Faye is the one who has been cooking for hours! I understand it better now. Thank you Faye. Thank you universe.
We will continue to miss Faye Houston, and the glow she cast, dearly. by @anna_child_
