#meettheeditor | two years on bookstagram, baby! and hence, there was no better time to renew my meet the editor. anyway so these have been the craziest two years of my life (I think, you see I have goldfish memory) and I've made plenty of new friends, then I've lost some of them, and made more then lost more then made more—what I'm trying to say is that it's been an endless cycle of friendships and I'm so so grateful for every single one of you, especially Hala, Alice, Livy, Starr, Myra, Autumn and so so many others. you all truly made everything here so much better.
I was inspired by a number of editors when I first started booksta, most of whom have retired, and probably won't see this post, but I'll still say thank you to ash (@/ashesbooksandmovies), avery (@lovefromaves), maar (@/percys.ballpointpen) and grace (@scooterg9) among many others for inspiring me to start editing, if it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't have had a blast on here.

-no big spoilers- I tried to make it as aesthetic as I could but I'm no photographer. anyway, I felt so slick annotating each chapter with the color that chapter was named after (😝) and these are some of my favorite lines ever.

I've been dying to get my hands on this for like four days and yesterday, I finally got it!! I already started it and I'm so excited to delve into its pages, especially after experiencing as long as the lemon trees grow. I love zoulfa katouh's writing style so much and the way she portrays Islam is genuinely so beautiful. it makes me so happy that people from around the world read her work and view Islam this way, learning that in its essence, Islam is built around love and peace instead of relying on the news and propaganda to tell them about it.

#percabeth | SO. the story behind this is that I had to go to school today for a teeny tiny task and since I didn't have any classes, I was stuck there all day for like six hours. so I ended up going to the library and took out mark of Athena and read like 300 pages before the librarian kicked me out (she wanted to go home) and so then I went outside and sat and got inspired to write a poem about percabeth (I was trying so hard not to giggle in the library over their scenes) and so I did. and so here it is.

#poem | I've been reading As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh, and I'm not kidding when I say that none of it feels fictional at all. that is the reality for so many people in the world, they're forced to take on roles they didn't want, for themselves and for others because that's the only way they can survive. no one deserves to be bombed continuously, children don't deserve to be amputated, and innocent people don't deserve to starve. and it's so sick and twisted that saying all that makes me controversial.

I woke up this morning and the words just came slamming into my brain. there's a lot more going on in the world than just this but for now, this is all I could come up with. I can't even begin to explain how messed up this world is, I don't think I can even fathom how many people are suffering at the hands of the powerful and i hate that I keep forgetting about them, I hate that I get so caught up with my own life that I turn away from the people suffering. I hate how numb I've grown to all this, for someone who's so empathetic but I do care. I care about everyone, all the victims, regardless of race and religion. and so should everyone else.
