Since her breast cancer diagnosis, @annacatherinejohnstone sees pink everywhere 💗

When Anna found a lump while on holiday, she thought it was probably nothing. A few weeks later, she received a breast cancer diagnosis at Charing Cross Hospital.

Since then, she has undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and is now adjusting to long-term treatment.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she shared, “I am beyond thrilled with the care I’ve received from my breast surgeon, plastic surgeon and oncologist. When you get such a life-changing diagnosis, you suddenly feel completely out of control of your own life – as though all the decisions you thought you had about your life and your future are taken away from you.

“But I would have chosen Dr Meera Joshi, Dr Georgina Williams and Dr Victoria Harding in a heartbeat. They and their teams are responsible for saving my life, and I don’t think I could ever thank them enough.

“If there is one positive thing I can take from this whole experience, it’s the chance to urge other people to check their breasts and get anything unusual looked at.”

Just like my birthday literally gave me life, the day I found one I had cancer started my road to recovery! Surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy completed but my breast cancer treatment is far from over. But it’s an excuse for a party and to wear it PINK so can it be that bad ?? This exact time last year I was squeezing my eyes tightly shut, desperately trying to push out tears, but also to try and sleep because my dreams hadn’t caught up with my diagnosis. This year, although I do wish it had all been a nightmare, I actually enjoy my waking moments, and that’s cos I’ve been surrounded by the best people in the world!!! Fuck cancer but also thank fuck for family and friends!! 🎀💅💖✨ by @annacatherinejohnstone

One year to the day since I went to the hospital for an ultrasound with plans to go to the pub afterwards, but found out then and there it was a serious breast cancer. I was plunged into egg freezing, surgery, chemo, radiotherapy, endocrine treatment and I’m still about to start targeted therapy. I’m scared and I’m often very sad, but I’m always very grateful - for my doctors, for my family, for my friends, and for myself. 🤍💫 taken in London, United Kingdom by @annacatherinejohnstone

Chemotherapy is rough (I mean, so is breast cancer) but I couldn’t be happier with my hair retention from the cold cap during 16 rounds of AC-T (Red Devil) chemo🥹
I was given tips from women who’d done it before me, and some of it comes down to luck - but we can at least give our follicles a sporting chance! I wrote literally everything I did all up on Substack (link in bio): supplements, detail, the lot - including how hair loss is actually the reason I found the cancer in the first place.
Big love to the inventor of the cold cap and all the researchers who developed drugs to help with side effects. And maybe a small amount of love to chemo for the leg shaving break 🤪🙃
