What a heartfelt summer it’s been! Here’s a little insight into what a Listen, Learn Volunteer Retreat looks like! I am so humbled and thankful to have been doing this work for over 15 years and in awe of every volunteer that has joined. This summer with @yogamour_healing_arts we had the privilege of serving two different communities in Northern Thailand which we’ve been working with since before these platforms evolved to what they are today. We offered health screenings and some follow up care and support as well a language classes, art classes and lots of sports/field day activities. Making time each day for self reflection through our yoga and meditation with lots of cultural adventures in between. Although each time I go the backdrop might be similar for me it’s a whole new world seeing it through what each volunteer brings to the table, through their joys, their struggles and the dedication it brings an awakening to myself and a truth of what yoga really is. At its core it’s not poses on the mat or a straight spine while meditating it’s yoking together the soul and the body. There’s nothing like surrendering and showing up in a corner of the world where you’re received with open arms and everyone pours blood sweat and tears into improving each others lives either through these simple offerings or just smiling and story telling and remembering that we’re all not very different from each other and all we have to do is show up. Let go of the complicated stories of why you can’t get on a plane, why we can’t make time, why it’s sitting in a bucket list and do yourself the favor of showing up messy but willing to try weather it’s this retreat or reaching out to a random stranger I promise that type of yoga will always make your life that much richer.
