New York, NY - albertz benda is pleased to present Surfaces, a group exhibition featuring eleven artists working across painting and sculpture: @tanyaaguiniga @sharifceramics @darcybrenna_ @joana_choumali @jimgaylord @nareshkumarstudio @emillukas @sofia.muljat @brie_ruais @kevinumana @thunderloves

Each artist treats the surface not as a neutral support, but as the primary site of meaning: where process is made legible and the act of making becomes inseparable from the thing made.

NEW YORK | @albertzbenda
Opening 9th July | Group show 'Surfaces'
__

It is such an honour to be a part of this exhibition which opens next week. It has been a dream for so long to show some of my artwork in New York City and it is finally happening and with such a cool gallery alongside some wonderful artists.

I am showing a large three panelled painting which is the biggest piece i have publicly shown. This piece was started before and finished after my endometriosis surgery. It has seen so many emotions, anger, despair, relief, fear and a feeling of a new start (and every other complication in between) It has also seen me feeling so broken and unable to move. I entered the studio for the few minutes and i was able to and throw single, frustrated marks and strokes onto the canvas and left defeated when the physical pain became too much. There is a lot of emotion in this but it feels so hopeful to me too. A reconnection to my body. Snippets, shapes and marks borrowed from my MRI and laparoscopy images appear in this. It is such an alien experience to see what is beneath the skin. I see this piece as a thread that connect what is outside and what is, or has been, inside me. This is just a little section of it.

USA friends, head to Manhattan <3
