Oh Greece you have been absolutely epic… so many beautiful memories have been made while here. This is the second time we’ve stayed at villa octavius and it’s just the best!!! I feel particularly sad at the end of this beautiful holiday, it’s bittersweet as it’ll be the last one we have while living in the U.K. with our dear friends the Goodman’s. We are so lucky to have such close friends who we live in the same village and holiday together! Our move to Australia is fast approaching … if only I could pause time for a little while, and savour it all even more. My dear brother would have been 40 today.

I miss him. I miss him so badly.
Time has made the grief less harsh somehow, but it has never taken away the dark hole his loss left behind.

Today I wish we were in some dive of a place celebrating him turning 40… laughing, drinking, causing chaos and adventuring through life together like we should still be doing.

Instead, I’m sat watching Four Weddings and a Funeral (still a great film), thinking about how much I wish he was still here.

I wish he knew my girls.
I wish they knew him.
I wish, more than anything, that he was still here beside me doing life with us.

Happy 40th, wherever you are.
I miss you. I love you. Always.

This is a net-winged beetle (family Lycidae)—very likely one of the common red-and-black species you see in the UK.

What you’re seeing
• The bright red and black colouring is a warning signal (they taste unpleasant to predators).
• The wings look slightly soft and ridged, which is typical of this group.

And the behaviour… 👀

You’ve caught them mating.
• The larger one underneath is the female
• The smaller one on top is the male
• They can stay joined like this for quite a while

Are they a problem?

Not at all 😊
They’re completely harmless to people and actually beneficial:
• Adults feed on nectar or don’t feed much at all
• Larvae help break down decaying plant matter

Fun little note

The girls are now watching them mate 😂. No privacy when they are near. Also Their bold colours are part of something called warning (aposematic) colouring—basically nature saying “don’t eat me, I’m not tasty!” taken in Kinabatangan River by @annakm

🇷🇸 Serbia — raw, untouched, and full of heart
There’s something incredibly special about Serbia — a country that feels raw and untouched by the rush of modern life. From its breathtaking mountains and river valleys to the cobbled streets of old towns, every corner tells a story. Getting to see the Danube river was a big highlight for me.

The people here are kind — I have found them warm, welcoming, and always ready to help.

Steeped in history, Serbia has stood at the crossroads of empires for centuries — Ottoman, Byzantine, and Austro-Hungarian influences still echo in its architecture, traditions, and cuisine. It’s a place where ancient fortresses overlook modern cities, and where resilience and hospitality go hand in hand.
