Great recent eats: the BRIGHTON edition 🍴👇👉

A visit to the brilliant new @kitgum1972 where highlights were this banging fried chicken with a scotch bonnet sauce, a very very good aubergine curry and a great margarita with a cumin salt rim 👌

Excellent almond croissant @beemaybakery

Not quite Brighton but worth a little trip out to the burbs for 10/10 focaccia sandwiches @lorenzosdoughdeli - especially this Saturday special: stuffed porchetta, crispy pork skin, salsa verde and mustard, still warm in a squishy freshly baked focaccia 🤤

A great post-beach veggie spread at @madrasis.uk in Hove. The Manchurian cauliflower is always a good addition to an order here, in my opinion 🙏

A very good burger (the ‘bacon butter burger’), delicious corn ribs and great margs at the new Brighton opening of @burgerandbeyond* (*pr invite but wouldn’t be in here if I didn’t recommend).

One of the best Brighton summer wins is coming off the beach hungry and getting an impromptu table @binchoyakitori 🤌🤌 Didn’t get enough pics cos I was too ravenous but as always these chicken meatballs (and everything else) hit the spot.

Very good margaritas and even better hibiscus margaritas @plateauwinebar 🤌

A delicious Thai meal @tamarindbtn – loved the laab and Penang curry, plus the cocktails are brilliant (people also love the whole sea bass it was a tad too sweet for me). I’ll definitely be back to try more of the signature dishes.

Satisfying salty and smoky pastrami burger and super crispy chips @saltshed 👌

I’m not into roasts but have to say that the one at @thecrazygoosebrighton is great. However I was having too much fun catching up with old pals to get any pics apart from this banging Bloody Mary

A very good classic croissant at my local @bayon.bakery 🥐 by @annalawsoneats

Great recent eats: the LONDON edition 🍴🍗

I’ve lapsed on the ol’ personal socials lately but I’ve still been doing my best to eat delicious food (of course) so here I am to finally share some with ya.

In no particular order, here’s some tasty things I’ve loved in London lately:

1. Super flavoursome, super juicy rotisserie chicken with fries, salad and sauces enjoyed al fresco at the brilliant @norbertslondon 👌
2. And while we’re on chicken & chips, @lasdunrestaurant has just introduced a ridiculous deal of devilled roast chicken, chips, salad and sauces for £19 (after 7pm only). And yes I’m biased cos I work for them but I also very much back this delicious deal and want to eat it again.
3. And if you’re going to @lasdunrestaurant I also recommend getting the fried potato with anchovies and green chilli - dream bar snack 🤌
4. Loved this Sope @comalera - a corn tortilla with refried beans, nopales, cheese, chorizo and salsa which I enjoyed as a breakfast and wish I could have it for breakfast more often.
5. Finally went to @singburi_e1 earlier in the year and loved it all, especially the crispy rice salad 🤤 (which may not be on the menu now soz. But it was all fab).
6. Everything I tried @chatsworthbakehouse was so brilliant. Can’t wait to go back.
7. Everything I tried with @alexcrossley @calonglondon was also great, but especially the fried chicken which is mad succulent with a top tier batter
8. @sonora.ldn still bangs

Aiming to do the same with Brighton eats soon. Watch this space 👀 by @annalawsoneats

New York City, babyyyy 🗽🇺🇸

Last month I finally went on a trip I’ve been wanting to do for YEARS. Here are 10 of the very best things I ate in New York and where to find ‘em.

📍I Cavallini - best meal of the trip, maybe even the year. 10/10.
📍Taqueria Ramirez - fantastic tacos that took me right back to Mexico City 🥰
📍Radio Bakery - some of the absolute BEST baked goods I’ve ever had (and I’ve had A LOT). Focaccias, pastries, cookies, corn cake - everything I tried on my two trips was 10/10.
📍Apollo bagels - didn’t bother with any other bagels after this cos I loved these so much. Perfect, wish we had them in the UK.
📍 Shu Jiao Fu Zhou - very delicious pork & chive fried dumplings doused in chilli and vinegar. J’adored.
📍Hani’s Bakery - malted cinnamon bun. Probably the best cinnamon bun I’ve ever had. Truly excellent.
📍L’Industrie - as expected, the burrata and prosciutto slice was perfect.
📍Librae bakery - a perfect pain au chocolat.
📍Los Tacos No 1 - also very good tacos. Not as good as Ramirez but way better than 99% of tacos we get in the UK and amazing value
📍NY dosas - went to this legendary cart in Washington Square Park for the famous dosa, which was very good but I was actually more impressed by the delicious samosa with its accompanying mint chutney (another great value lunch option)

Shout out to my NYC gals – @demeterellie for lots of these recs, @nattynyc_ for snapping some taco content, and @jeshamiltonn for just being around 😅😘

The news is out: @sophonaplate has written a second cook book and it’s another banger 🔥

It’s all about cooking for people, whether a quick midweek meal for 2, or a weekend feast for 6. I had the pleasure of testing some of the recipes last year and they’re all super smart, original and delicious, and include:

- Pulled Lamb Shoulder with Pomegranate, Harissa Roots & Chickpeas and Hispi, Mint & Shallot Salad
- Herby Pork Rice Noodles
- Flat Iron Steak with Chermoula Sauce, Cumin & Pink Peppercorn Smashed Potatoes and Aji Verde Salad
- Mango & Pineapple Granita
- Chicken & Chickpea Soup
- Blackened Fish Tacos with Pineapple Salsa
- Caponata Filo Pie
- Squash & Sausage Rigatoni
- Ribs with Pineapple Barbecue Sauce
- Peach, Tomato & Burrata Panzanella
- Horchata-style Panna Cotta
- Rhubarb & Cinnamon Bun Pudding
- Ginger Cake with Honey Almond Buttercream

These are just some that I tested but there are sooo many more that I want to try.

Do ya self a favour and pre-order the book. Link in Soph’s bio ❤️ by @annalawsoneats

Absolutely 10/10 eating weekend in London 🥹❤️

Today, I had an outrageously delicious lunch at @plazakhaogaeng in Borough Yards. Everything was so packed with flavour, I was honestly buzzing. Couldn’t fault any of it, highly recommend 🔥

And yesterday I went to the brilliant @gina.restaurant and all three courses were as excellent as expected. Loved it all but top highlights were the deliciously mustardy beef tartare on toast; seriouslyyyy good potato, cheese & wild garlic pithivier; perfect and super comforting hot chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce and excellent pecan pie. And lovely to bump into @ravneetgill - congrats again, you and Mattie have created something perfect! 👏

Finally, queued in the rain without an umbrella (woops 🌧️) to get my hands on a cinnamon bun from @rollboysldn which I have just eaten warm and it is a squidgy cinnamony sensation.

Top tier food weekend. by @annalawsoneats

Pleased to confirm that the @rotikinguk in Brighton is as good as the OG in London (and easier to get in..) 🫓

My order on this ocassion (I was hungry) was: roti canai with dhal, fried chicken with sambal, and coconut rice – hitting a craving for both roti and rice, saucy vibes and something crispy/fried, all for £20 (with leftover dhal).

When your friend invites herself for dinner and it gives you the excuse to cook up a ‘lil mezze, featuring:
@sabrinaghayour tomato bulgur pilaf - a really easy recipe for flavoursome, fluffy bulgur wheat in Persiana
@alfiecooks muhammara with balsamic leeks (+ feta)
@sophonaplate @mob spicy lamb hummus bowl (with homemade hummus, always super silky when made using @boldbeanco queen chickpeas and @belazu_co tahini) + pickled sumac & parsley red onions
@mamoosh_bakery pittas - IYKYK (and if you don’t and you live in Sussex, go get some, then slather them in garlic butter/oil and za’atar, which I did after this photo was taken) by @annalawsoneats

January’s finally over and I reckon the answer to beating the blues (in the absence of a long-haul holiday) is to keep yourself as well fed as possible.

My highlights:
1. Started strong with a really good Malaysian meal at @jandadiner in Peckham
2. Spiced rice stuffed tomatoes with garlic yogurt – a great recipe from my pal @esthermclark’s Substack
3. Lush moules marinières and other nice things @urchinpub
4. Made homemade wontons and chilli oil for the first time using @daigasikfaan’s fab recipe, (then made a whole accompanying spread for me and my pal)
5. Introducing my mum to @binchoyakitori 💕
6. Recipe testing perfect dishes for the cold
7. Nduja + crispy potato: two words I want to see on a menu. Delicious brunch @thecanopybrighton
8. Recipe testing bringing more joy to damp days
9. Proper sausage & mash + a bargain deal + cosy vibes + fun chats @thegeesebrighton = perfect January eve
10. First recipe made from my newest cook book – ‘cheat’s lamachun’ from @sabrinaghayour’s Persiana Easy👌
11. Shocked by this cinnamon bun which didn’t look like much then turned out to be excellent – warm, squidgy and super cinnamony @toklasbakery
12. Half price (thanks to @thenudgelondon) beef wellington and the impossible to resist champagne via button at @bobbobricard
13. Spiced apple crumble @lasdunrestaurant (shoot day perks 🙌)
14. Juicy chicken + potatoes by my talented friends @twirlybirduk by @annalawsoneats

2025 wasn’t so bad after all 🙌

Not gonna lie, I’ve found the last couple of years hard at times, as so many people in my life hit personal milestones that feel completely out of reach for me.

But instead of moping, I’ve decided to celebrate the wins I’ve had in my work life this year – and doing this has made me realise just how good a year it’s actually been!

I went freelance in April 2024 and the first year had its ups and downs, but looking back at 2025, I’ve worked on some really great projects with some really great people.

Here are just a few of my highlights:

1. Becoming the social media manager for the brilliant @lasdunrestaurant and enjoying many fun shoots there
2. Being asked to film/create content for an (interesting!) event for @social_pantry inside the mesmerisingly beautiful Old Bailey 😍
3. Recipe testing for one of my very talented food writer friends on an exciting project that I can’t talk about yet
4. When @ameliachristiemiller asked me to proofread the second @boldbeanco cookbook 🥹 (def one of my fave projects of the year)
5. Meeting the lovely @smokeandlime to film and eat at one of her absolutely brilliant Bengali supper clubs for @eatwithlondon
6. Filming a bunch of fun recipe idea videos with the legendary @amy__poon for her 10/10 range of @poons_ldn sauces
7. Spending a sunny day on the South Bank capturing the vibes at @understudysouthbank for their Wimbledon Pimm’s pop-up
8. Getting to try my first ever Louisiana-style crayfish boil and make some fun content for @eatwith @crayfish_bob
9. Recipe testing for a food creator I haven’t worked with before on a project I can’t yet talk about 🤫
10. Reconnecting with an old colleague and spending a really fun day filming with her for her fab new business @thewhsupperclub 💚
11. Recipe testing for another very talented food writer friend on an exciting project I also can’t talk about yet 🤫
12. Being commissioned by @goodfoodeveryday to test and review kitchenware 🍳

And lots more!

Thanks to everyone who booked me for work this year ❤️

And if anyone in food wants me to recipe test, proofread, copy-edit or create content for them in 2026, get in touch x by @annalawsoneats

Some sensational scenes in my kitchen last year…

These are just a few of my fave snaps from last autumn when I was recipe testing a whole heap of very delicious things for @dinnerbyben’s cook book. There’s some proper bangers in there and you’ll learn a lot💥

Me 🤝 anything spanakopita related

so when I saw this @meerasodha number in @guardianfeast I had to try it. Easy to make and the lemony pine nut parsley dressing is a nice twist.

Went into a plan-less Saturday feeling a bit a down but a couple hours cooking with the music up LOUD is always a good way to rectify that. New @kojeyradical album is 🔥 as expected.
