I made it to Spain! Hard to believe it has been 17 years since i've set foot on Spanish soil. I call Spain my favorite country. I played here a bunch from 2001 to 2008. One of my first big festivals was Festimad in Madrid. I remember Limp Bizkit and Slipknot headlined the band stage. Probably the biggest dance floor I ever played to was on New year's in Madrid for about 5000 people on the dance floor at one time. I played just ahead ahead of Satoshi Tomiie and Peace Division. People mostly don't know this about me because it was long time ago, but I built a pretty good presence in Europe as a young DJ. I didn't like the way the local L.A. scene worked and didn't see the point in trading favors with people in my hometown when I already got to play at Tropical inside and Moontribe out. So rather, I made my alliances in Europe, brought talented European DJs to play in the states and went and played a bunch over there. There's a lot of nostalgia for me here in Spain and I'm a very nostalgic person so it's kind of a lot for me to be here right now. But it still feels good, and i'm starting to get excited. What about? Being the best host I can at Tropical Eclipse Retreat España in just over 9 months now! To me, Spain is such an easy country to love. And I wanna share this love with my friends. I didn't even have time to look for a gig on this trip - I booked it less than 4 weeks ago because the price was right and I wanted to go sooner than later.. That's fine, i'm not here to DJ, and I'll get to do that at the actual eclipse event next August anyway. I'm here to do investigation, research, planning. Right in my wheelhouse. And, hey, despite being a little pale from too much time in Oregon :), my Spanish is actually still pretty good and I was immediately complimented on my pronunciation at the rental car desk Well, it's time for me say adios :) The sun has set and I need to take a little walk outside to get some water and supplies. It's 9pm here and I have an 11am meeting tomorrow at the event venue, so I will be crashing early and hopefully sleeping for about 12 hours. So my good friends recently launched their amazing product - @yerba.1 powdered yerba mate packets geared towards portable natural caffeination on the go... Since I am always caffeinated, and always on the go :), I thought I would demonstrate the making of an energizing @yerba.1 mocktail 30,000 feet up in the air using only the yerba1 mate powder package, and items easily acquired in-flight for free. This product is touted for its convenience - all you have to do is to stir it into still water and you have a yummy mate drink with 200mg of caffeine. Of course. I identify as fancy and require ✨️ water but easy enough :) Imagine how many $10 airport starbucks lattes this can replace :) Of course. I can get much fancier at home - or even out at a festival - and make a really proper mocktail with it, as I recently did vending at @canyonvibration... And it's a wrap for Cafe Annand at Canyon Vibration 2026! Before anything, a huge thanks to my crew - Katie, Kevin, Audrey, Tanner + a much-needed assist from Jacob!  It was a lot of work covering both food @ drink needs for 600 guests, and it truly took a Dream Team to make it all happen as smoothly as it did. A huge thanks also to Canyon Vibration - Peter, Andre, Robin, and their many helpers.  CV is always so welcoming and appreciative of our offering, we always feel right at home here <3 We just love the crowd at this event & how unique and well dialed-in the production is..  When you see an event tested with a last-minute location change, professionalism comes through even more.  When I read 'multiple backup locations' in the initial venue shift announcement, I laughed & cried at the same time lol. There are a lot of advantages to the Orchard spot including proximity to both Portland and Eugene, & being set up where we could hear the main Stage Music - at least the first night. Our placement was really nice. Although there was more of a build for us without the naturally shaded side of the barn in the canyon, Tanner got us all shaded, decorated, and lit up :) Saturday morning is always nuts but this was the most nuts ever, at one point the line 25 deep.  We'd have been pretty cooked if not for Katie's cafe skills, taking and tracking our orders.  Kevin and Audrey killed it on the burritos, it was wild.  I handled espresso drinks, mexican mochas, matcha lattes, yerba mate & hydration multiplier mocktails, and smoothies, all of which kept me plenty busy. The second night's main stage & second stage flipped so it was quieter for us, but there was quite an amazing laser show that we got to witness along with the more chill music selection. Running a cafe is really hard work!  I thrive on that, though I would not want to do this all the time for sure.  Serving people in a different way is very rewarding though <3 This week has been grueling, cleaning, catching up with other work, getting ready to leave (today) for my big road trip of the year with my daughter. For 5 years running in Oregon, we've made our home at Canyon Vibration, also serving once each at Orchard Vibration & Osmosis in the Trees. Weekend wrap - yeah just getting around to this after one of the busiest weeks of my life. Last Friday to Sunday was Cafe Annand's 4th Canyon Vibration and this year we had an all-new (except for me) Portland-based crew of Audrey Ann Batman, Kevin P Davis, and Paj Ananke.. Big thank you to all for being chill hard workers and getting this Cafe done! We were busy as always, and I must have made close to 100 House Monkey Espresso Smoothies. My other duties included making fruit smoothies and iced matcha lattes, and warming the curry bowls I had made at home. It was exhausting! I slept 10 hours total between prep night and the 2 nights there. But as always, I felt much love and appreciation from the lovely crowd that looks forward to this event all year! I worked so much I mainly caught the music from my work station, and tent on the way to naps. Sounded great tho! Thanks to Peter Marks, Leeonn,, Robin Ewing, and the rest of the Canyon Vibration team for another sensational and deeply satisfying event! I did not do great at getting pictures this time - but if you zoom in you can see our little Cafe under the awning of the barn so nicely lit up by David Katz :) Coming up for Ben Annand ...
