POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Some happy news this morning!

I’m delighted to share that my pastel painting, Keeping Close, has been accepted into the 2026 IAPS Juried Fall Webshow — 49th Open Division!

This little family of cows was such a joy to paint, and I’m especially pleased to see them included in this international exhibition.

So grateful to the jurors and the International Association of Pastel Societies for this recognition.

Keep looking. ❤️

Between Earth and Sky

A quiet moment on the farm — soft light, distant shapes, and one curious cow holding her ground.

I’m always drawn to the places where ordinary scenes become something more.

Just Enough

A new floral still life, painted from life and kept intentionally loose. I wanted the flowers to feel a little wild and uncontained, with color and light doing most of the talking.

Throwback Thursday — “Oh, Happy Day”

I still love the way the light catches the vase in this painting, along with the composition and the joyful mix of colors. It simply feels happy to me—which is how it found its name.

Light has a way of changing ordinary things.

Sometimes it doesn’t just illuminate—it seems to gather, quietly transforming what we’re looking at.

That’s what I was chasing in Gathering Light.

I don’t always paint what I see.

Sometimes I paint what stays with me.

Morning on the Mississippi

Some paintings stay with me long after they’re finished.

This one was inspired by an early morning riverboat cruise on the Mississippi with dear friends. The quiet water, the soft light, and the peaceful reflections created one of those moments I knew I wanted to remember. My husband was actually the first to notice the beautiful light that morning.

I learned that this painting has a special meaning for my sister-in-law, who chose it for her own home. It reminds her of her dear father, who loved to fish. When she was a little girl, they spent time together fishing along the Mississippi, and this painting brings those treasured memories back to her.

As artists, we never really know where a painting’s story will continue. Sometimes it becomes much more than a landscape—it becomes a bridge to someone we love and the memories we never want to lose.

There are moments I wish I could tuck into a pocket and save for later. Since I can’t, I paint them instead.

The greatest gift an artist can receive is knowing a painting continues its story in someone else’s home.

Keep looking. 🌞

I’m delighted to share that Into the Quiet has found a new home.

Thank you to everyone who paused to walk this quiet desert path with me. Your kind words and encouragement meant so much, and I’m grateful this painting resonated with so many of you.

Every painting begins because something quietly asks to be noticed. It brings me great joy to know this one will continue bringing that quiet feeling into someone’s home.

There will be more quiet places to discover.

Keep looking. 🌞

Painting the Sonoran Desert is never about painting the same landscape twice.

The light changes by the minute. Hillsides shift from warm gold to lavender. Saguaros cast long blue shadows, and colors seem to appear where you didn’t notice them moments before.

These three pastels were painted on location in Arizona, where the desert is constantly changing with the light. The final image shows my easel set up in the very landscape that inspired these paintings.

Desert Ridge has found a wonderful new home, while Fresh Desert and Plein Air in the Desert are still available.

Thank you to everyone who has welcomed my paintings into your homes. It is a privilege to paint these beautiful places and share them with others.

Outstanding in a Field

Sometimes the subject of a painting is small, but the feeling of the place is enormous.

I loved the vastness of this landscape—the soft lavender distance, the warm grasses, and those few cows standing quietly in the field.

There’s something about tiny cows in a vast landscape that makes me stop and breathe.

This pastel, Outstanding in a Field, was inspired by that quiet feeling.

If you’d like to see my newest paintings before they’re shared publicly, I’d love to have you join my New Art Alert list at AnneGeeArt.com.

This painting was started in PleinAir and finished in the studio.
The location was Bear Creek running through the cute town of Morrison, Colorado.
I looked up from my painting location and spotted this blue cottage amongst the trees.
