Very happy to be in @_thebookseller today with my wonderful colleagues Andrea Henry and Orla King. I have been at Picador 18 months now and I love every day of it.

Blessed be the authors, the books and my colleagues.

And a thousand thanks to my boss for this sign of faith. by @anniemedz

Happy publication day to @kavehakbar.kavehakbar’s radiant debut novel MARTYR!

So much has been written about it already but: sentences so beautiful you could paper your walls, hope and redemption, plot twists galore, and a sense at the end of it all of being lifted from the sorrow of the daily into the infinite of art.

I recommend it with all my heart.

Thank you @kavehakbar.kavehakbar for putting your faith in everyone @picadorbooks.

Cover design Stuart Wilson @panmacartdept , that spine dreamt up by Bryony Croft 🔥

💚 ‘I will carry this story, and the people in it, with me for the rest of my life’ John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars

🩷 ‘Smart, dazzling, different . . . This book is thrilling. It’s like watching the novel itself be reinvented’ - Ann Patchett, author of Tom Lake

💚 ‘This book vibrates with love of life, beauty and language. I’m in awe...’ - Natalie Portman

🩷 ‘An absolute jewel of a novel. A diamond. I haven’t loved a book this much in years. Kaveh’s writing is so thoroughly powerful and gorgeous you can feel it from where dreams come . . . This book does everything.’ — Tommy Orange, author of There, There

💚 ‘I can’t remember the last time a book made me feel like this. Martyr! is simply extraordinary. Kaveh Akbar has written a novel that will stay with me forever.’ — Clint Smith, author of How the Word Is Passed

🩷 ‘Martyr! will stay in my soul for good―a fever dream, a reckoning, a heartbreak, a shattering and mending, a delight―its double-helix of dreams and conversation now part of my own DNA’ — Leslie Jamison, author of The Empathy Exams

💚 ‘Kaveh Akbar renders the full spectrum of life, and death, with great beauty and care’ — Raven Leilani, author of Luster

🩷 ‘Kaveh Akbar is a radiant soul, a poet so agile and largehearted it comes as no surprise that his first leap into fiction is elegant, dizzying, playful.’ — Lauren Groff, author of The Matrix by @anniemedz

Louisiana / The Copenhagen Fellowship was pure joy. Thank you @danish_lit_lounge / @louisianaliterature

Highlights: lots of swimming, watching Ali Smith in the sunshine, Claire Keegan’s ideas on silence and shame, drinking with Hernan Diaz, meeting @frida.isberg.author, and arguing with Ian McEwan…

📸 mostly stolen from the other much more visually talented fellows 🙏 💜 taken in Louisiana Museum, Denmark by @anniemedz
