This week we had to say goodbye to Sophie. My beautiful, fearsome, terrifying, tiny cat. The beating heart of our home.

I’m taking a lot of solace in Marilynne Robinson’s words from Lila: “She could feel her body resting, the way you can tell that a cat asleep in the sun knows it’s sleeping. The pleasure of it is just too good to go to waste.” Like a heatseeking missile, Sophie could find the sunniest spot in any room 🌞 she would drink up the sunbeams.

We keep listening for your tiny footsteps and meows and seeing your tail flick like a question mark out of the corner of our eyes. Miss you desperately, hope you’re up there terrorizing all the big dogs into giving up their sunny patches for you. by @annievore

SOLD OUT: A workshop for noticing. As spring fills in around us, we’ll spend time observing and painting the shadows cast by plants and trees.

Join painter @annievore for a short indoor warm-up before heading outside (weather permitting) to trace the shadows cast by foliage and flowers into compositions, using watercolor and ink brush pens , focusing on shadow, light, and negative space. No experience needed, and all materials are provided.

The way she glows at the roses while she swaddles them in tissue paper and passes them to you across the counter
