Brioche Without Tears!

If you’ve ever admired the rich, squishy texture of brioche knitting but found the technique intimidating, I have the class for you! Join me in the Art Room at Fletcher’s Mill, Dean Clough, Halifax, on Saturday 22nd November, 10am–4pm, for a full day of relaxed, supportive learning.

You’ll discover how to knit plain and two-colour brioche, both flat and in the round, and how to increase and decrease to form delightful patterns that dance through the brioche ribs. I’ll also share a brilliant brioche hack that makes the whole process quick, clear, and surprisingly easy!

During the class, we’ll begin knitting Westward Leading, my brioche star design that shows off the beauty of two-colour work and sculpted shaping. It’s a satisfying and elegant project that perfectly showcases the skills you’ll be learning throughout the day.

By the end of the day, you’ll have all the skills – and the confidence – to create beautiful brioche projects without tears!

Places are limited, so don’t miss out on this enjoyable day of learning, laughter, and luscious knitting.

And why not make a weekend of it? Halifax has glorious heritage with amazing places to visit. These include the Dean Clough Galleries, the Viaduct Theatre, the Piece Hall (a Georgian Cloth Hall), Shibden Hall (home of Gentleman Jack), Halifax Minster, and Calderdale Industrial Museum. The Brontë Parsonage Museum is nearby, and lots of breathtaking Pennine moors scenery.

A few years ago I bought and painted a yarn swift for my lovely twin-sister. Today at Yarndale I bought one to paint for me, so during show breakdown I took a few photos of Marie’s swift to refer to when I do that. Sadly these are the only photos I have from this year’s Yarndale, which was my best ever for sales. Thank you to everyone who came by to chat with me and chose to buy something from my stall. It was as always a privilege and a delight! #yarndale2024 by @annkingstone

Thank you to everyone who visited my stall at Yarndale this weekend. I love chatting with fellow knitters, discussing techniques and sharing tips, so it was a great treat to meet you.

As always, it was wonderful to receive compliments about my work. Even more so to see folk wearing things that they have knitted from my patterns. A special delight this weekend was meeting folk who have become prolific makers of Yorkshire buttons using my Yorkshire Button Kits. Apparently they are addictive!

Thank you to the fantastic organisers and the lovely fellow stall holders that also make Yarndale special, including many folk that I now consider to be old friends (length of time known, not age!). You are generous with your commitment to excellence, your personal warmth and your business expertise.

This lovely lady has come to #Yarndale2023 wearing a Rievaulx hoodie from my book Cabled Knits. As always it was very exciting to see someone wearing one of my designs, and graciously willing to be photographed. Thank you for appreciating my work! ❤️

The latest post at my blog includes the pattern for a triangle knitted from the centre outwards. I devised this to create some bunting for this year’s Yarndale Worldwide Creative Project. Link is in my bio. Enjoy!

Join me next May for four full days of knitting and relaxation at Parcevall Hall in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales valley of Wharfedale. We are going to learn all about the Yorkshire Dales glove knitting tradition, and knit our own personalised Yorkshire Dales gloves. Through extensive research, my twin-sister and I have become the foremost experts on the history of knitting in Yorkshire, and we are keen to share this knowledge and the relevant skills with you through a new “Yorkshire Knitting School”, recalling the remarkable history of Yorkshire’s rural knitting schools.
.
Our location will be the historic Parcevall Hall in the stunning valley of Wharfedale in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. Parcevall Hall is an Elizabethan manor, dating back to 1586. Comfortably furnished in a manner that is sympathetic to its history, the Hall oozes charm. It is an idyllic location for relaxing holidays.
