If you’re coming to Yarndale on the Sunday there are still a few workshops available to book. If you’re a knitter then there are 2 to choose from.

You could discover the magic of double knitting: a reversible colourwork technique creating two mirrored fabrics in one in an Introduction to Double Knitting with @annkingstone . In this beginner-friendly introduction, Ann teaches a seamless Italian cast-on, practical ways to manage two yarns with confidence, and methods for producing crisp, tidy selvedges — equipping you with the skills to start knitting fully reversible projects.

Or you could turn your hand to a different approach to pattern in knitted fabric in Knit Mitred Squares with @anniken_allis , Yarn Addict by Anniken Allis. Mitred squares are fun to knit and easy to adapt to a variety of projects and a perfect way of using up left over yarn. You will learn how to knit a mitred squares and how to pick up stitches and knit a second mitred square onto your first one. You will start a mitred square place mat during the class.

Definitely a lovely way to end your Yarndale weekend.

A few pics from our final day of the tour when Ann Kingstone came to deliver a woolly workshop. After learning about the style of gloves knitted in the Yorkshire Dales and the use of unique knitting sheaths there, everyone cast on in a specific way, using one from Ann’s antique sheath collection. Much concentration followed with occasional eureka moments!
Sustained by afternoon tea, progress was made🤗

I was there for moral support and happily focused on my stitching😉

🧶What’s this you ask? It’s a hob. Have you ever made a hob?🧶
If not then you can on Sunday at Yarndale in a workshop with Ann Kingstone when you can learn to knit your very own Yorkshire Hob. Hobs are the name in Yorkshire folklore for helpful little household spirits. Generally they are depicted as wizened and hairy little men, and most folk are familiar with them in this guise under the more widely used name of “hobgoblin”. Reckon lots of us could do with a hob in our houses.

🧶 Maker Monday 🧶

Lana stopped by and showed us these Harry Potter themed book scarves which are double knit so the colors are reversed on opposite sides! 🦁 🐍 You can find the link to the free pattern from @AnnKingstone via Ravelry under “Hogwarts Double Knitted Book Scarves.” These are such a good way to learn the double knitting technique and only use a small amount of yarn! So if you’ve been around here for a while, you might get the impression that I like, shall we call it, a long term project … the crochet blanket is already 9 years old … the tapestry was started way before I met my current husband around 30 years ago …

So according to my photos and Ravelry entry I knitted this Woodrup in 2016 to match the bike said husband had built for me to take to Eroica that year. Knit on 3mm needles it was a mammoth effort involving colour work and steeking. With the deadline looming the sleeves didn’t stand a chance. So I just loosely ribbed the armhole intending to come back later to add them.

Fast forward to Saturday evening, 29 March … and guess what I unpicked to start a somewhat frenetic knitting of sleeves … and yes, that’s because there’s another deadline. We’re taking part in the @tweedrun on 26 April … so please send positivity and knitting belief my way so that I can do this!

Also plan to knit a beret and sew a shirt … those may be a step (or pedal) too far.

Have been at yarndale before as a helper, but this was my first time as a visitor. What a great weekend! A varied haul for me and my notebook is full of notes of other potential purchases!
