Happy birthday, son!

It is a joy to witness the way you have launched into the world beyond our nest.
The road can be bumpy, with unexpected detours and side stops, but know I will always be the first to show up for you.

It still seems implausible to me that the world continues to spin while I feel like mine has spun off its axis and into an alternate universe.

Last year, we marked Faith’s 16th birthday still fully raw, fresh in the shock and grief of losing her. One year later, it feels like 10 days or 1000 days could have passed since then. Each day is the same and different. A day she should be here, a day we should be living mundanely, naive of the heartache we now carry.
I wish and long for her physical presence, her laugh, her face, and any version of her even being annoyed at me or vice versa.

Faithy, I miss you so much. I am heartbroken we won’t see you become all the future versions of yourself. Keep shining for us.

If you’ve been up Carbonate in recent months, maybe you’ve come across this memorial we placed in May.
I was joined by some of Faith’s closest friends, who insisted we take the hardest way up - because of course it’s what Faith would do.

On September 13, we will make this hike again, joining @5balliance in their Hike for Hope, raising funds and awareness for their vital work in promoting mental health and wellness as well as suicide intervention in the Wood River valley.

Join me in honoring lives lost, bringing hope to those who struggle, and walking beside the loved ones left behind.

I hope you’ll join my team “Never Alone, Always Enough” either through hiking with me or making a donation to our team.

Faith loved the mountains, and she loved to ski. She loved her family and friends.

On Saturday, April 19, we gathered on gaper weekend and placed these skis on Upper Greyhawk, skiers left. We were joined both physically and in spirit by hundreds of friends who love Faith and love us.

My hope is that this memorial will serve as a space for reflection and healing. A place to remember Faiths’s bright spirit. I hope her friends and coaches can ski by on a training or race day and give her a big smile and “hello.”

Most of all, I hope that this marker can serve as a reminder to everyone who knew and loved Faith - you are never alone and you are always enough.

Please join our family on Saturday, April 19 to set these skis in Faith’s memory. We hope their presence on Baldy will be a spot for anyone who loved her to visit for years to come, as we carry her spirit with us in our hearts daily.

We will also have a time of remembrance - to share a story or leave a memento. Gaper weekend costumes encouraged!

This is neither pretty or aesthetic. It is raw and real in all meanings - so maybe it also beautiful in the truest sense.

From the day we lost Faith, people in all corners of our lives have been alongside us from nearly hour zero. This has helped to carry us through since that day.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I hope for the day when I can tell each and every person who has shared a word, a meal, a space, a walk, a hug, a gift of remembrance, a letter, a photo - what a gift of love you have been to me and our family.

Dear Faith,

I have been struggling to put into words all my thoughts and feelings since you left. Our hearts are breaking, and the pain of missing you is deep and raw. Yet amidst all this, I have found moments of peace, beauty, and even humor in remembering you.

I think of the goofy little girl who made funny faces in almost every photo on my phone. I remember your incredible athleticism and the joy of cheering for you and your teammates over the years. I hold dear our river adventures, always in awe of your and Riley’s bravery on the water. I smile at the memory of your hand-me-downs, which you so kindly shared with Regan—your style was always the best. And I treasure the quiet chats we shared this summer on my couch, moments that now feel even more precious.

I am beyond thankful to have these memories and will always hold them close to my heart.

Faith, please watch over us now. Remind us to be open with our thoughts and feelings. Remind us to seek real connections and to ask hard questions. Encourage us to smile at a stranger, to believe that we are always enough, and to reach out to a friend, family member, teacher, coach, or 988 when we need help. Inspire us to live life to the fullest and to love deeply.
