a poco art is pleased to announce our participation in Untitled Art Fair Houston, taking place October 1–4, 2026.

Our presentation brings together the work of Stephanie Shih and Sandeep Mukherjee, two artists whose practices examine how bodies carry diasporic history, memory, desire, and nature.

Stephanie Shih’s meticulously constructed photograph-based art and installations draw from Dutch still-life painting, Asian American material culture, immigrant histories, and the visual language of consumption. Familiar foods and domestic objects become charged symbols, asking who is seen, collected, consumed, and remembered.

Shih’s new commission, RED, BLUE AND WHITE, is currently on view in The Global Appeal of Blue-and-White Ceramics at LACMA’s David Geffen Galleries. She will also show in Houston this fall for a forthcoming group exhibition in the Museum District, with further details to be announced.

Sandeep Mukherjee approaches landscape through movement, touch, and shifting perspective. Painted across translucent Dura-Lene and sculpted aluminum surfaces, his works unfold through the viewer’s movement, allowing the body, the image, and the surrounding environment to continually reshape one another.

Mukherjee’s recent exhibitions include the solo presentations Observer, Observed at Proxy Gallery in Los Angeles and Never was a shade at Project 88 in Mumbai, as well as the moon, the womb, and they remember at Angels Gate Cultural Center.

In dialogue, their works meet across questions of appetite and embodiment: the consumption of the Asian body, the body’s consumption of nature, and the fragile exchanges between humans and the larger universe.

Opening TONIGHT!

The Cult of Euphoria
Tiger Cai solo exhibition
SPRING/BREAK Art Show New York
Booth D34-35

In Tiger’s Wonderland, Hide N Seek is a game and the ultimate adventure. Strange creatures and dazzling colors draw us in, while stories of power, violence, and a world in turmoil sit in plain sight. What do we choose to see—and what are we hoping to escape?

Paintings, animation, sculpture, and works on paper invite you to look twice. The truth has been here all along. The joyful dancing is just an intentional distraction for the cruelty behind the scenes.

And…

IS IT ALL REAL?

🪐 What if the universe begins as vibration? 🧬

On Tuesday evening, we gathered for Breath-String, an intimate concert of violin and guitar with Taro Wayama and David Lee Ruest, held within Breath-line with works by Nancy Ivanhoe and Tia Xia.

String theory imagines the smallest foundations of the universe as vibrating strings: different frequencies becoming different forms of matter. That evening, the idea became physical. Strings vibrated. Air moved. Bodies listened and breathed.

And everyone who entered the space became another node along the string, a constellation of artists, musicians, friends, and strangers connected, however briefly, through the same vibration.

Perhaps this is what gathering around art can do: create invisible strings between bodies, objects, memories, and sound.

Thank you to Taro and David for filling the space with music; to Nancy Ivanhoe and Tia Xia, whose works gave the evening its body and landscape; and to everyone who came and became part of the string.

For one evening, we breathed together.

BREATH-LINE
movement, breath, and sound

As the moon continues its orbit, the exhibition shifts into a new phase.

Breath-Line brings together works by Nancy Ivanhoe and Tia Xia in an exploration of embodiment, emergence, and the invisible forces through which bodies take form.

Drawing from the Daoist concept of ziran (自然), “that which becomes itself,” the exhibition considers the body as porous and continually becoming. Like tides responding to the moon, we are shaped by forces that may remain unseen: gravity, breath, memory, atmosphere, and time.

Ivanhoe’s suspended, translucent forms evoke skin, membranes, nets, and connective tissue. Xia’s works carry traces of landscape, sediment, bodily memory, and matter in transition. In dialogue, their works ask us to consider the body less as a boundary than as a field: relational, permeable, and always in motion.

This new chapter unfolds not only through visual art, but through movement and sound. Dancers and musicians enter the space as temporary lines and resonances within the exhibition, extending its rhythms through breath, gesture, vibration, and duration.

A line may become a vein, a horizon, an orbit, or a path of connection.
A breath may become movement.
A body may become a tide.

I transformed the gallery into a ball.
No performers. No audience. No script.

I was not interested in directing movement, but in creating the conditions for movement to emerge.

The long silk fans became an extension of the body, making visible the invisible currents between breath, wind, gravity, bodies, and space.

Whether through painting, photography, video, or participatory environments, my practice explores the same question: How can art reveal what is already present, yet often goes unnoticed?

I don’t create the flow. I simply light the first spark, allowing the work to unfold through encounter.

The artwork is never the object itself. It is the living relationship that continually comes into being. by @annonymous_cynist
