![We left on Tuesday around 10:00 for our one-off concert in Paris, where we were going to present our new album. After a lengthy discussion about where to eat – the options being: in Paris, in a small village along the way to Paris, or at a gas station next to the motorway – we decided to go for the last option, around 13:00. Margo, Lucas and Dries all had the same sandwich, while Timo opted for triangular sandwiches. Lunch passed relatively uneventfully, until Lucas was about to start eating his chocolate bar. Dries had assumed that he and Lucas were going to share a little dessert, and thought they had jointly settled on that specific chocolate bar (dark chocolate with hazelnuts) after Lucas had rejected Dries’ suggestion of M&Ms. Dries then asked Lucas whether he thought he had merely asked Dries for advice about his own dessert, but Lucas denied this as well. Timo confirmed that he interpreted the situation in the same way as Lucas, while Margo sided with Dries. In the end, Lucas shared the chocolate bar with the whole band.
A few minutes later, another argument broke out between Dries and Lucas. Dries was driving and felt somewhat entitled to choose the music. At one point, just as Lucas was about to take a nap, Dries decided to put on his emo/screamo playlist, featuring lots of loud guitars and screaming. Dries refused to turn the music down, partly because he was experiencing a small post-lunch slump and wanted to stay awake. Lucas nevertheless decided to stick to his napping plans and put in his earplugs. He later admitted that he had managed to get a solid five minutes of sleep.
Around 15:00, we arrived at the venue in Montreuil. Margo immediately wondered whether she should move there, and was reminded of the French expression “mon œil”, which the band would go on to use frequently throughout the following days. The venue was very old-school, with a genuine DIY rock ’n’ roll atmosphere. The sound engineer and coordinator of the venue told us that we could leave our gear there overnight and pick it up the following day. This inspired Margo to come up with an excellent logistical plan…

![5 things you should know about our rehearsal week in Normandy:
- Dries recently figured that Lucas would look good with a very short cut, especially paired with his glasses. The rest of the band thinks that Dries also believes this might boost the band’s image (more punk), so he brought his electric razor along to Normandy. Lucas was open to the idea, but thought the setting on Dries’ razor was too short (0.4 mm). Dries found online that hair grows 0.35 to 0.40 mm per day, so Lucas would return to Brussels with his hair quite a bit longer. Lucas wasn’t convinced by this in the end, but he would still get a short cut when he and Timo watched the delayed broadcast of the Red Devils’ match together later this week on Tuesday (at 7:00 at Dries’ place).
- On the first evening, the band’s barbecue was suddenly interrupted by four people, who turned out to be the neighbours, carrying a large plastic crate. Inside were 15 ducklings, which had somehow ended up in one of the neighbours’ living room without their mother. The neighbours explained that they were taking the ducklings to a nearby pond, hoping to reunite them with their mother. One of the neighbours mentioned that her son also makes music: he raps and plays the violin. She immediately asked whether he could come by that same evening so he could get to know the band and maybe collaborate. The band thought that was perfectly fine, but as of now they’ve still never met him.
- Lucas, Dries, Mike, and Timo went to Timo’s workplace (GC Nekkersdal) to pick up some equipment to bring along (speakers, cables, microphone stands, and power strips). When Dries asked one of Timo’s coworkers how things were going at GC Nekkersdal, the coworker replied, “Safety-wise? – Bad. Last week, a naked Polish man was walking around in the store across the street.”
- Margo accidentally slept in the wrong room on the first night in Timo’s family’s house, where the band stayed for a few nights (it’s unclear who was at fault).
