My plan is to fluff, and if that is ugly then, fluff you!

BEFORE YOU TRY AND SELL ME

the newest Korean skincare
I want you to know that I plan on becoming
a plump, wrinkled cloud
enjoying these knees
until they could be apple crumble
and the earth scoops them all up,
licks her fingers clean.
I pictured with precision
how my curls will fluff
white candy floss
between the teeth of fate.
Don't get me wrong,
I regretted the fact
that I won't get to see it all
since I was six
hugging a tiny bird so tight
until his wings stopped
my heart.
Sooner than later, I will be no more
than what a leaf was to a tree
but if I am blessed
I will get to dress in all my colours
be crunchy, and slooooooowly pirouette
towards the ground.
so please, let me be

30 poetry techniques in 30 weeks - Week 8

WELCOME TO INSANITY FOLKS
this week was brutal.

Technique used: Sestina

The sestina is a complex, thirty-nine-line poem featuring the intricate repetition of end-words in six stanzas and an envoi.

Rules of the Sestina Form

The sestina follows a strict pattern of the repetition of the initial six end-words of the first stanza through the remaining five six-line stanzas, culminating in a three-line envoi. The lines may be of any length, though in its initial incarnation, the sestina followed a syllabic restriction.

Prompt used: Leaving home - Going alone by @angela.lowes

RESULT

When they call you for an interview, not to measure your integrity,
but to see how readily you will kneel, how quietly you accept the norm,
you understand what it will cost to build a life and still call it home.
When every door requires surrender, you learn to stand alone,
to pack your future into boxes, to practise saying goodbye,
and leave behind the person you once were in your childhood room.

You close the door and turn the key; the past remains inside the room,
while all you have defended travels with you: your integrity.
You tell yourself that leaving is a beginning, not merely goodbye,
that elsewhere you may live without pretending that injustice is the norm.
But every street is strange, each morning finds you more alone,
and no unfamiliar ceiling offers what you once believed was home.

You dream of the old street, the open door, the smell of home,
then wake beneath another ceiling in a rented, borrowed room.
You learn the stubborn price of choosing not to stand alone
among the ones who trade their silence for a little borrowed integrity.
You watch the things you once condemned become the accepted norm,
and understand that every act of leaving starts with a goodbye.

Is poetry the anchor or the sea?

A LOVER'S PLEDGE

The door slammed behind me for the very last time;
that shall be a poem.

The wrinkled hands that I held like my breath,
wrapped around her little finger,
shall be a poem.

The wall I hit when I crashed against open arms,
that too shall be a poem.

Hundreds of school lunches thrown away
to occupy less space,
that too shall be a poem.

Tears waltzing
with laughter,
mingling with rage,
flirting with sadness,
that too shall be a poem.

This one,
precious life
I bit out of a pulsing chunk
of meaty chaos,
I swear, it shall be a poem.

30 poetry techniques in 30 weeks - Week 7 is heeeeeereeee 🤓
This week was challenging in the best way! 🤌

Technique used: Haiku 🪭

A haiku is a short Japanese poetic form, traditionally capturing a moment in nature or human experience with simplicity and imagery.

In English, it is commonly written in three lines with 5–7–5 syllables, often with a seasonal or emotional element.

Prompt used: "In the shadow of the blue moon" by @alisonemwrites 🌖
( which was PERFECT for this technique!)

Difficulty : ⭐⭐⭐ (getting the syllables count right is more challenging than you think 👀)

RESULT:

"Beneath the blue moon
your name faded to silence
salt lingered between."

I do not think this needs any particular explanation.
It is just that simple, no woman I know would correct this grammar mistake.
Reading the news is painful, and some cases of violence against women become big and some other ones happen daily just across our street, and never make it to newspapers.

Yes, I know, not all men. I have a boyfriend, he is obviously a man, and I obviously love him to the moon and back, but MANY men.

If we want to use language appropriately then let's do it. Not all men,but way too many men. by @anotherhumanstory

YOOOO We made it to week 6 of my poetry challenge where I will try 30 poetry techniques in 30 weeks! 🤓🧚🪄

This week was INSANE.

Technique used: Triolet

The triolet is a short poem of eight lines with only two rhymes used throughout.

A (first line)
B (second line)
a (rhymes with first line)
A (repeat first line)
a (rhymes with first line)
b (rhymes with second line)
A (repeat first line)
B (repeat second line)

Difficulty: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ( I kid you not people, this was attempted brain damage 👀)

For this week I randomly picked a prompt by the amazing @thesubduedwords " If my voice spoke".

What came out of this experiment is very dear to me, I dedicate this to the people it will speak to, you will know who you are.

RESULT:

IF MY VOICE SPOKE

If my voice spoke for the young daughters who lie awake in the dark
for those who must fill every silence in the room,
then I would die knowing I left an ember, a mark,
If my voice spoke for the young daughters who lie awake in the dark.
Let my echo be their beacon, a flame, a spark.
may my words be their monster’s reckoning and doom.
