RADIO SILENCE: A SELECTED VISUAL HISTORY OF AMERICAN HARDCORE MUSIC (EXPANDED EDITION), by Nathan Nedorostek and Anthony Pappalardo (Revelation)

Signed and stamped by one of the authors, the Brooklyn-side of the partnership.

Revelation Records Books, publishing arm of Revelation Records, is proud to announce the reissue of _Radio Silence: A Selected Visual History of American Hardcore Music_, an essential and long-out-of-print book that helped define the cultural legacy of American hardcore.
Originally published in 2008 by MTV Press/powerHouse, the new 2025 expanded edition has been meticulously restored from the original source files and features rare and never-before-seen material from the genre’s most pivotal moments and figures.

“Born from a partnership between designer Nathan Nedorostek and writer/musician Anthony Pappalardo (In My Eyes, Ten Yard Fight) back in 2003, the original idea for Radio Silence was created from a shared frustration: why did so many punk histories leap from The Ramones straight to Nirvana, leaving behind the radical visual and sonic subculture that thrived in between? Determined to tell that story, the duo spent five years on a grassroots journey across the country—pre-social media—tracking down photographers, flyers, record sleeves, merch and stories from across the landscape of American hardcore.

Now back in print after more than a decade, the updated edition includes unpublished images and ephemera from The Germs, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, SS Decontrol, Die Kreuzen, Youth of Today, Minor Threat and many more.
As hardcore has grown from a niche underground movement into a globally recognized and celebrated mode of expression, Radio Silence remains a vital archive of its origins on the fringes of the underground. Incorporating music, design, fashion and fury in equal measure, this book offers a comprehensive window into the ethos behind the early hardcore movement.”

Along with being the coolest place I could imagine in the early 90s, Embarcadero was all about tension. The bricks, the dicks, the tricks. I wanted to ditch suburbia for SF. Real bad. I didn’t, but I when @jacobrosenberg asked me to be part of this project, I felt like… I was almost kinda flow? OK, maybe just not a Corner Kid.

Thank you to Jacob, @huntfilmwork, @tedbarrow & @kevinwilkins for making EPICENTER and including me in the journey.
Seriously, 594 unseen images from 1990-1993 with the deepest word dive possible? Let’s go.

Reads-In: We scored a few copies of the _Propeller Records, Selected Visuals 1980-1982_ zine returned to us from the Arthur “Artie” Freedman exhibition up at Harvard. _Making a Scene_ ran from November 1, 2024 - April 18, 2025!

Anthony Pappalardo designed this amazing Propeller zine, hyper limited to 75 or so copies, as a supplement to the _Propeller Product Prop 4-1_ 2LP Compilation (Lawrence Wilmington) we issued last year.

Took years to gather these #boston flyers, posters, printed matter. And we initially sold these zines as an exclusive at the 10.19.24 Propeller party here in the shop.

These are the last remaining copies … #linkinbio
