Trans lives in the South aren’t a monolith.

Today is Trans Day of Visibility, and visibility looks different for everyone.

In South Carolina, photographer Anthony Gansauer set out to document transgender life as it is: complex, intimate, and deeply rooted in place. Shot on film and printed by hand, this body of work captures moments of quiet, resilience, love, and everyday life.🏳️‍⚧️

“Each subject represents a distinct journey... Rather than presenting a single narrative, the project reveals a mosaic of experiences that challenge assumptions about queer life in the Deep South,” says Gansauer.
