Going to @dollywood was a bucket list adventure years in the making. There was something bittersweet about finally getting there so soon after her passing, but what a way to celebrate her life! I was so busy directing a show that I forgot to make it Instagram official. Y’all, I graduated! Going back to school to get my MFA in Musical Theatre in my 40s is both the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Thanks to everyone who shared this journey with me. I’m incredibly grateful both for the experience and for the family of friends and collaborators, old and new, who helped me along the way! The production of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice that I directed opens tonight at @backyardrenaissance. Proud barely scratches the surface. The ambition and scope of this gritty modern fairy tale with music made it one of the most challenging projects of my career. But ding dang are we creating some magic on that stage. Tar, loves!

I’ve spent two years on this rock, aka working on the world premiere of the folk horror musical Tomorrow, the Island Dies by @ryanscottoliver through the @sdsu_ttf New Musical Initiative. Two years falling in love with a dockman named Porter Sinch who has taught me about what it means to fight to connect even when it means dismantling walls you spent years building up to protect yourself. It’s been a goddamned gift and pleasure. Truer words.

Come see my MFA capstone directing project presentation of Sondheim’s Evening Primrose! It’s a rare opportunity to watch it performed onstage. And, of course, I made it gay! (Would you expect anything less from me?) I’m so proud of the exciting work that I have gotten to do with my collaborators and hope that you’re able to experience this incredibly special show, along with pieces from two of the other talented folks in my cohort!

Evening Primrose is a 1966 horror / romance hybrid by Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman, who would later collaborate on Follies. In this queer reimagining of the rarely seen made-for-TV musical, a poet escapes his life and reality by hiding out in a department store after closing. There, he finds a secret society of folks who also make the store their home and only emerge after dark, including another young man whom he falls in love with. However, when the young couple decides they want to venture back out into the world, the community might have other, more sinister, plans for them. taken in SDSU School of Theatre, Television, and Film by @anthonymethvin

I finally got to hang out at the Stars Hollow gazebo in a cozy sweater. It was everything I hoped it would be. We took the TCM Warner Brothers Studio tour and it was amazing. Along with the rest of Stars Hollow (which was also River City in The Music Man and Fallwell in Elvira Mistress of the Dark), we saw houses from On Moonlight Bay and The Bad Seed, Merlotte’s Bar from True Blood, the entrance mural from Abbott Elementary, prop storage (including the resolute desk from The West Wing, and costumes from Sinners and The Music Man. And that just scratches the surface. It was geared towards classic film lovers and was absolutely fantastic! taken in Warner Brothers Studios - Burbank, CA by @anthonymethvin
