I genuinely cannot believe I get to announce that SKATER BOY was selected as a Kids’ Indie Next Pick for March/April! 🛹🩰🔥

From the bottom of my heart, I want to give a huge shout-out to all the independent booksellers who nominated Skater Boy and a massive THANK YOU to @americanbooksellers for supporting this little angry debut that could!

I am deeply honored and forever grateful to every bookseller working tirelessly behind the scenes to get LGBTQIA+ stories into the hands of those who need them most. You are the beating heart of this industry and your efforts do not go unnoticed. 🥹❤️

thank you thank you thank you 🤘🏼

He was a punk. 🛹
He did ballet. 🩰
And HE officially became a published author today! 🥳📚

It truly takes a village to bring a book into the world and I cannot overstate the monumental impact my editor, @youcancallme__al, has had not only on my career as an author, but on me as a person. Alexa challenged me every step of the way to find the beating heart of Wes’s story and I cannot thank her enough for taking a chance on my angry little punk. I hope I was able to breathe life into a character whose story rarely gets told (but who deserves a happily ever after just as much as the rest of us). 💞

To every book blogger, influencer, bookseller, librarian, friend, family member, and random stranger on the street who has been there along the way to shout about this book to anyone who’d listen: I cannot thank you enough.

And to my younger self—who never felt gay enough or punk enough—this one’s for you. Your voice deserves to be heard. 🤘🏼🖤

So, about last night... Holy crap what a lovely evening!! I moderated a panel of incredible #LocalAuthors (@tboteju @anthonynerada @kalieholford #CoreyLiu ) at @perfectmatchbookshop <3. I'm incredibly honoured to have been given this opportunity. #QueerYA matters so much, and with more discussions like this, we can only hope that any pushbacks on publication gets quashed! Thank you heaps authors for creating and sharing with us, and thank you #PerfectMatchBookshop for giving us events like this. Have you read anything by these authors?

Birthdays are a really cool excuse to show just how thankful you’ve been for the past twelve months around the Sun. I’ve always had a love hate relationship with mine personally, but with so many changes on the horizon, I can’t wait to see what 34 brings. ❤️🎂

☀️ MEET THE AUTHOR ☀️

Anthony Nerada became a writer after his fifth-grade teacher told him it was his destiny. Since then, he’s read too many books (if there is such a thing) and explored worlds far outside the reaches of his own. Anthony lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Coast Salish Peoples. His debut novel, Skater Boy, was named a Kids’ Indie Next Pick by the American Booksellers Association, a ‘2024 Best Teen Book’ by Indigo-Chapters, Bookshop.org, and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, and a Read with Jenna Jr. Summer Reading List Pick for 2025.

Somehow, between juggling full-time studies, preparing for (and working through) my certifying teaching practicum, and navigating school district job boards, I just passed 30k words on my next project.

Each book I write feels like a promise to myself—to improve my craft, to dig deeper into the psyche of my characters than ever before—and I’m proud of this one so far. It’s whimsical and different. It’s avant-garde in its approach. It’s not trying to be something it’s not. And it’s entirely mine (right now), which maybe I love the most? I have no idea what will come of it, but it’s easy to invest time into something you love. Something you crave.

Here’s to more words as I inch toward the finish line. 🍃

To celebrate Pride Month, I was invited to my old stomping grounds at @ilmvfx last week as a guest speaker for their PRIDE ERG/Book club event. What an honour to see Vancouver finally get its own Pride Chapter (after campaigning for years) and a studio that is beyond stunning! Warms my heart to see change still happening after I left two years ago (!!) to pursue a career in teaching. 🏳️‍🌈🎉 #authorevent #pride by @anthonynerada
