The list goes ON AND ON, but here’s just a few authors of queer stories I think deserve WAY MORE ATTENTION for the work they do! Who is your favorite author that you think deserves ALL OF THE ATTENTION?

I had hoped to have this fully read by the YA event at Perfect Match on Tuesday, but alas, I failed in that quest. This book delves into many issues, including sexuality, class distinction, high school cliques and labels, anxiety, and presumed PTSD. Does this sound like a lot? Yes, yes, it does, but @anthonynerada skillfully weaves these issues and storylines together into something both beautiful and reflective, as well as sometimes jarring. Told through Wes’s point of view as he navigates coming to terms with his sexuality and his coming out, the true heart of this book is rooted in self-acceptance, and acceptance of others. There is also a focus on the labels that characters put on themselves and each other, as well as the struggles around any expectations that comes with said labels. In a nutshell… this was a great throwback to every chaotic teenage experience and emotion many adults may remember experiencing as teens. And I would imagine would be validating for teenage readers. Overall, this was a great read that does an honest and validating dive into the complexities of being a teenager.

So, about last night... Holy crap what a lovely evening!! I moderated a panel of incredible #LocalAuthors (@tboteju @anthonynerada @kalieholford #CoreyLiu ) at @perfectmatchbookshop <3. I'm incredibly honoured to have been given this opportunity. #QueerYA matters so much, and with more discussions like this, we can only hope that any pushbacks on publication gets quashed! Thank you heaps authors for creating and sharing with us, and thank you #PerfectMatchBookshop for giving us events like this. Have you read anything by these authors? #QueerBooks

#skaterboy #cbt #anthonynerada #currentlyreading #youngadult
