It’s been a week since our release at BIRD and we’re still vibrating on all the love and energy of that night. @kiril_mik made an aftermovie to capture the energy we put out.

Sounds of the Eclipse is yours today!

My second album released into the world today and I can’t be more proud of it and excited to share it with you.

Big love to everyone who worked on it and poured a little bit of themselves into the album to make it into the final work that it became. This album wouldn’t exist without them and I am eternally grateful to share this journey with them.

I’m equally proud that the album released on my personal record label Sundown Recordings, so in whatever way you decide to support the record, it will all directly benefit the creation music and support independent music.

The record features guest appearances of NIA, MAIN., MOGYAH, K.O.G., Aziza Jaye, Fanni Zahár.

The band that are my brothers in arms and put up with my last minute songs and changes before recording days are Peter Somuah, Jesse Schilderink, Joop de Graaf, Milan Boone and Thijmen Molema.

Strings played by Nia Ralinova, Wilker Parades and Niya Parvanova.

Percussion played by Danny Rombout.

Its a very rare thing to work on a record and make it with the people that created the genre that the record has as its foundation. Back in January of this year we embarked on a new journey with @peter_somuah to create the third album ‘’Highlife’’ and it for sure took us on one. From recording the band in the full analogue studio of @butterama_music in Berlin to traveling to Accra and Kumasi to record with and in the homes of the people that created the highlife genre back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. I’m very proud to share that ‘’Highlife’’ by Peter Somuah is now available on streaming platforms and vinyl on @actmusic_official by @antondebruin

Most people don’t know I host a monthly radioshow on @operator.radio where I share curiosities from around the world. New releases, music from friends, things I find in day to day life when looking for the next batch of inspiration. The goal of every set is to showcase that a lot of music, that people think live in different “genres”, are actually closer together than one might think. Jazz flows into hiphop, hiphop flows into RnB which flows into highlife which flows into reggae and so on. Everything is connected by history and more important: people. It also serves as an invitation to go visit an event of a music culture that you think is not for you while it shares close ties with something you enjoy daily. The show has been running since 2024 so there is quite a backlog on Mixcloud and Soundcloud if you want to explore but from now on I’ll try and be more active on here sharing the tracks and episodes aswel.

Terwijl John Legend, Nile Rodgers, The Roots en Charlie Puth de grote zalen vullen, blijkt de Open Stage in de Center Park area misschien wel de spannendste plekken van North Sea Jazz. Hier krijgen niet alleen internationale gasten, maar ook Rotterdamse muzikanten én bezoekers de ruimte om samen muziek te maken. ‘Het kan iemands eerste stap zijn richting een podium,’ zegt zondaghost Anton de Bruin.

@northseajazz ! You guys came out and danced the night away. Big thanks to @northseajazz and @birdrotterdam for having us host the Central Park Stage on Sunday.

Super grateful and massive love to @theon_cross for joining us on the last jam of the night. It is crazy to play together with someone who inspired so much of the music I write.
