For Bahamian artist Antonius Roberts, FUZE Caribbean Art Fair creates opportunities for artists to engage with space in ways that extend beyond the traditional art fair experience.

At FUZE 2025, the fair was intentional about creating spaces throughout the pavilion and inviting artists to transform them—allowing for installations and artistic interventions that shaped how audiences moved through and experienced the fair.

This approach reflects Roberts’ own longstanding engagement with art, environment and place, and the possibilities that emerge when artists are given the space to respond, experiment and create.

With the generous support of Sherwin-Williams Bahamas, artists were able to bring these spaces to life, helping FUZE create an environment shaped by the artists and practices represented throughout the region.

As we look ahead to FUZE 2026: Coming Home, we’re excited to expand these opportunities, creating more space for installation, experimentation and ambitious artistic interventions throughout the fair.

Hear from Antonius as he reflects on FUZE 2025, the transformation of its spaces and the support that helped make it possible.

In 2017, I created Light of Faith — Reformation of the Cross, exploring light as both a spiritual presence and a natural source of energy.

The work envisioned a monumental cross using solar energy to generate light, bringing its physical and spiritual meanings together.

With the repeated power disruptions we have been experiencing, I find myself returning to the questions that inspired it: our dependence on existing systems, our relationship with the natural environment, and the possibilities already present around us.

Revisiting the work today, those questions feel as relevant as ever. by @antoniusroberts

I am honoured to see Dr. Giulia Smith’s essay, “Antonius Roberts: Sacred Spaces,” republished as a chapter in Caribbean Eco-Aesthetics: Strategies of Survival Through Contemporary Art by Manchester University Press. The essay first appeared in the catalogue for my 2023 exhibition Art, Ecology, and Sacred Space at the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, curated by Dr. Krista Thompson.

As another hurricane season begins, I find myself reflecting on “Every Child Counts.”

This work was created from a fallen Poor Man’s Orchid tree from Abaco in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. What began as a damaged tree became a memorial to the children and teachers who lost their lives during Hurricane Dorian, and to the communities forever changed by the storm.

“Every Child Counts” reminds us that trees, landscapes, and communities carry memory, and that art can help transform that memory into healing and hope.

For those interested in learning more, copies of the publication are available through Manchester University Press and Amazon. by @antoniusroberts

Day three in Nassau 🇧🇸

Led by Bahamian artist Antonius Roberts @antoniusroberts and the team at Incubator for Collaborative Expression (@ice_bahamas ), students spent the day learning about the history of I.C.E. as a collaborative creative space rooted in mentorship, experimentation, sustainability, and community engagement. Students also had the opportunity to learn more about Antonius’ own artistic practice and experience the exhibition New Beginnings currently on view at the gallery, a reflection on renewal, transformation, and the continued evolution of both the artist’s practice and the I.C.E. space itself as a site for creative exchange and community building.

The afternoon shifted into hands-on making, where students were invited to create freely without strict plans, material hierarchies, or prescribed outcomes. Using found materials and natural objects, they explored printmaking, sculpture, mark-making, and experimental forms of creative play and collaboration. taken in Project ICE by @antoniusroberts

This room was once an industrial ice freezer.
Now it preserves something else.

Inside are over 40 years of my life’s work — beginning with early newspaper coverage after college, and continuing through national honours, royal medals, and international exhibitions.

Every clipping tells a story.
Every exhibition marks a season.
Every interview captures a moment in time.

A life devoted to art and culture — the work, the memories, the milestones, and the moments that shaped it.

I am grateful to Christina Wong-Turnquest.

From the heavy lifting behind the scenes to opening night, Tina showed up with intention, care, and a deep sense of responsibility to the work, the space, and to me.

She curated my first solo exhibition at ICE, a place I’ve called home for the past seven years. Tina held the process gently, with an understanding of how personal this chapter was. The works emerged from a moment of loss after the fire, and she helped me share the story of what comes after—what it means to gather the ashes and choose to begin again.

Curating is care work, and Tina did this with love. I’m grateful for her vision, her steadiness, her trust, and the way she honoured every part of this journey.

Thank you, Tina, for walking this path with me and for helping usher in such a meaningful New Beginning. taken in Project ICE by @antoniusroberts

ICE Gallery cordially invites you to the opening of ‘New Beginnings’, featuring new works by the Masterful Bahamian Artist Antonius Roberts, OBE, featuring sculpture, painting, and photography. Join us at ICE Gallery Saturday, January 17th, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

The exhibition was developed in response to a recent devastation that ignited a renewed urgency within the artist’s practice. Roberts’ recent travels across Africa further shaped this body of work, where he encounters ancestral landscapes and historical connections. Through Christina Wong-Turnquest’s carefully considered curatorial framework, the gallery is activated as a contemplative environment centered on the Ecology of Memory and Sacred Ground, where resilience, persistence, and reclamation unfold.

New Beginnings invites the audience to meditate on the ever-changing and transformative aspects of life, emphasizing our remarkable adaptability as people and our deep connection to the land.
