I’m happy to share that “Winter Suns” is now available on Bandcamp (link in bio)! There are liner notes on the website, but I want to give HUGE thanks to @ashfarrand.design (cover art), @gooddudelojack (mastering), and @jordan_fartz (guitar, synths) for helping put this together. I also couldn’t have the time/space to make music without the constant support from my family. It means a lot when people even give this music a chance and take time out of their busy days to listen, so thank you, thank you.

Please know that 100% of sales from this EP will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. And since it’s Bandcamp Friday, all revenue shares will be waived, so ALL the money from today’s sales will go to DWB. My heart is with victims in horrific humanitarian crises and displacements, from the civil war in Sudan to Palestinians still undergoing the US-backed genocide.

Hey! It's been a while, and I hope you've all been hanging in there the best you can. Quickly hopping on here to share that my release is coming out next week for Bandcamp Friday. It’s been almost 4 years since putting anything out (busy w/ parenting, working, etc), but been writing music when I’d get the chance. Hey everyone, just a quick message that I won’t be on IG as much anymore and will be migrating over to Bluesky. I realize it’s just a drop in the bucket, but I don’t want to support META. They’ve been shady for a while, and it’s gonna get shadier. Thanks to @_hissquiet_ for inspiring this move! This is also in no way shaming people for staying on IG, because I’ve discovered so many great musicians, got to stay in touch with friends, and learned so much through different accts. You do you! I’ve deleted IG on my phone for now, so apologies in advance if my responses are delayed. I will still check in on my computer now and then (may eventually deactivate). If you’re on Bluesky, let me know and feel free to add me. 🙂

Like a lot of people, I always admired Steve Albini’s consistent and steadfast business principles, philosophies on recording artists, and the music he created with Shellac. I did not know him personally, but he seemed to live his life authentically and didn’t humor any bullshit. Because of that, he came off as prickly to some, but over the years, he would open up about his growth as a person and reflecting honestly about any past wrongdoings. He wasn’t defensive at all and didn’t buy into his own BS. I really respected that, because this is the least he could do (as he himself states) in an industry and culture that is still male-dominated. Here is an example of that on Andrew Scheps’ podcast from 2021. RIP, Steve. 🖤 #thankyoustevealbini

Slide 1: I think I have not been held to account, honestly, for how deaf I was to feminism and how I was enjoying privilege, enjoying the privilege of being a straight dude, you know? And my peers and my friend circle, my circle of friends and my peers were mostly dudes and mostly sort of objectifying women to a degree. And it’s been a long process of me coming to grips with my complicity in that and trying to make amends to the extent I can, trying to at a minimum appreciate that I was wrong about those things and that I should own up to it.

Slide 2: I feel like anyone that bristles.
At having their own behavior brought up to them, as though it’s somehow unfair, is perpetuating the system by refusing to account for it. You know, perpetuating the imbalance of power by refusing to account for it. And I’m willing to be uncomfortable for however long it takes for me to articulate that I was passively enjoying that privilege during that period, and I’m ashamed of it, you know.
I don’t think that absolves me of having been unmentionable, you know, and I don’t think it’s out of line for other people to point out that I’ve been grotesque in the past. I think it’s an opportunity for me to learn, and as I mentioned to Evelyn, for me to listen. And I think that’s, you know, I think that’s an adult responsibility.

A clip from my tribute to Aphex Twin’s #3 (aka Rhubarb) w/ guitar, pedals, + Tascam 414. Looping done with the Boomerang. I was also gifted an old shotgun microphone (Electro-Voice DL-42), so I paired it with the AKG P420 on the Twin Reverb. The DL-42 is a bit darker than the P420, so I think they complemented each other pretty well. Full video on YouTube (link in bio).

I haven’t touched the clarinet since high school (like, 20 years ago, sheesh), where I wasn’t creating yet and playing sheet music of other people’s compositions. So, it was VERY refreshing to connect with this instrument again and just improvise—even more so through loopers and pedals, of course. My embouchure was shit, but maybe I’ll start playing more to build it up.
