Field trip! 📍While in Atlanta, our team went on a site visit at Raksha, Inc., to learn about the spaces, services, and resources they offer. We left grateful and inspired by the care and dedication they bring to supporting AANHPI and MENA survivors every day. Thank you @rakshainc for opening your doors to us!

You’re already doing policy.

Every time you recognize a recurring barrier, explain how a system affects survivors, recommend a better practice, or speak up about what your community needs, you are helping influence policy.

📅 October 29, 2026
⏰ 2:30 p.m. ET

Facilitated by Linda Phan, Director of Policy at the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (@apigbv), and moderated by Betty Smith, NOVA’s Policy and Inclusive Communications Manager.

📝 Event Description
This is a pivotal moment for Asian/Asian Americans, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) in Georgia. In recent years, AANHPIs in Georgia have grown in population and political power. As the political landscape continues to evolve, AANHPIs in Georgia now hold immense power to influence the future of this country.

Helen Zia is no stranger to current events and political shifts. An award-winning journalist, author, and renowned civil rights activist, Ms. Zia catalyzed much of today’s AAPI movement through her work uplifting the Vincent Chin murder and bringing national attention to anti-AAPI hate.

In her first visit to Atlanta since the Atlanta Spa Shootings, which transformed our community, Ms. Zia will highlight the intersection between anti-AAPI hate and gender-based violence and why the issue remains relevant today. Joining her on the panel is Dr. Chris Suh, Associate Professor of History at Emory University. Together, they will reflect on how the Atlanta community can meet this moment, stronger and more united than ever before.

You may already be doing policy work without realizing it.

If you have ever identified a recurring service gap, questioned a harmful process, or worked to remove a barrier for a survivor, you have encountered policy.

At The Policy Table, Betty Smith sits down with Linda Phan to discuss how advocates can turn frontline knowledge into meaningful systems change.

Pull up a chair and watch the conversation. Then, join us as we take the conversation further during our upcoming interactive webinar:
