WATCH YOU RISE is coming very soon.

Watch You Rise is a feature documentary that follows as a young filmmaker comes of age, she unearths stories of sexual assault experienced by her mother, her peer group, and eventually herself. Along the way, she meets survivors, perpetrators, and experts. Together, they explore the gray areas of sex, power, and consent: seeking to break cycles of harm and uncover radical possibilities for healing.

And along side the film is the launch of The Talk, Actually, a youth-led social impact campaign organized by young people, for young people, to start conversations that change the culture around sex, consent, relationships, and power.

Young people shouldn’t just hear “The Talk.” They should get to lead it!

Through their Youth Ambassador & Advocacy Program with @ihavetherighttoorg , young people will be trained to facilitate WATCH YOU RISE film screenings and lead conversations in their own communities, with the knowledge, language, and confidence to ask hard questions and challenge harmful attitudes. Ambassadors will be trained through hands-on workshops in comprehensive sex education, healthy relationships, and trauma-informed support.

Sexual harm doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens in communities where harmful behaviors are excused, boundaries are ignored, and people are taught to stay silent instead of speaking up.

Ending sexual assault means ending the whole cycle, from prevention to intervention to recovery, and it starts with our own healing and grows outward into our communities.

The headlines out of Cornell have sparked a nationwide conversation about sexual violence and the cultures and institutions that allow it to continue, with survivors and allies declaring “I Am Jane Doe” in solidarity.

A lot of us care. But what can we actually do to create lasting change?

Organizations working to end gender-based violence have spent decades answering that question. We can look inward at the cultures we participate in. We can hold institutions accountable. We can invest in prevention. We can teach consent before college. We can give our time, resources, and voices to the people doing this work every day.

You may already be doing policy work without realizing it.

If you have ever identified a recurring service gap, questioned a harmful process, or worked to remove a barrier for a survivor, you have encountered policy.

At The Policy Table, Betty Smith sits down with Linda Phan to discuss how advocates can turn frontline knowledge into meaningful systems change.

Pull up a chair and watch the conversation. Then, join us as we take the conversation further during our upcoming interactive webinar:

In 2018, China’s #MeToo hashtag drew nearly 4.5 million clicks in two weeks. Then it was blocked.

So survivors changed the sound. 米 is rice. 兔 is bunny. Said together, 米兔 (mǐtù) sounds almost exactly like “me too.” Some dropped the characters altogether and posted 🍚🐰 instead. #RiceBunny reached around 5 million clicks before censors came for that too.

This week we’re spotlighting Chinese for our #SpeakItToDefeatIt series. Four words, and the research behind them, in partnership with @apigbv. Four words, and the research behind them.

API-GBV publishes its Lifetime Spiral of Gender Violence in 20 languages. Chinese is the only one that appears twice, in Simplified and Traditional. A resource printed in one script doesn’t reach the people who read the other. That’s why every term in this post appears in both.

Our platform now holds more than 562,000 survivors across 80 countries. Read someone else’s story, or share your own when you’re ready.

🇵🇭 Filipino is the national language of the Philippines. Tagalog is the language it was built from, and one of 175 languages still spoken there.

This week we’re spotlighting Tagalog for our #SpeakItToDefeatIt series. Here are five words, and the laws behind them, all framed by @apigbv’s Lifetime Spiral of Gender Violence, a resource that traces gender-based violence across a woman’s whole life course.

Tagalog is the most widely spoken language at home in the Philippines, in 10.5 million households or roughly 40% of the country’s total. It’s also an ethnicity, the name is thought to come from taga-ilog, meaning people of the river.

31 stories, messages, and questions have reached us from the Philippines, part of a community of more than 561,000 survivors across 80 countries.

As a board member of @apigbv, I am proud to invite y'all to this event.

On September 30, 2026, API-GBV is excited to invite you to a community dialogue with renowned civil rights activist and award-winning journalist Helen Zia!

Ms. Zia will highlight the intersection between anti-AAPI hate and gender-based violence and why the issue remains relevant today even through many historically violent moments in the AANHPI community. Joining her on the panel is Dr. Chris Suh, Associate Professor of History at Emory University and the facilitator of the panel will be Emily Wu Pearson, who is a journalist with WABE.

Together, they will draw connections between today’s climate and pivotal historical moments, including the civil rights movement, Vincent Chin’s murder, and post-9/11 and the Atlanta Spa Shootings. The three will reflect on how the Atlanta community can meet this moment, stronger and more united than ever before.

Join us on September 30th from 6-8:30pm at Emory Law – following the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and its repercussions on our community and on the eve of Domestic Violence Awareness Month – for this powerful dialogue.

Our small nonprofit is now three years old! ❤️❤️❤️ As we reflect on our journey, we are reminded that the very first grant awarded to Ka Lei o Ka Lāhui came through the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (API-GBV) and the Office of Family Violence Prevention and Services (OFVPS). We were proud to be selected as 1 of only 43 grantees nationwide and 1 of only 2 organizations from Hawaiʻi through this highly competitive funding opportunity.

We are especially humbled to see Ka Lei o Ka Lāhui representing Hawaiʻi on both the cover and page 38 of the report documenting this important work.

In partnership with NAPIESV, API-GBV designed and implemented the ARP Support for Survivors Program to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern survivors throughout the United States.

This report highlights the critical role that culturally specific, community-based organizations play in addressing service gaps, fostering healing, and creating sustainable pathways of support for our communities. It also underscores the importance of investing in and nurturing the growth and development of grassroots organizations doing this vital work.

Mahalo nui to API-GBV and NAPIESV for recognizing and supporting the work of culturally grounded organizations like ours. We invite you to explore the report and learn more about the transformative impact of community-led healing, advocacy, and care. 🤍
