Having a wedding, planning it, inviting your favorite people and bringing everyone together for one big party to celebrate your love is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Today marks our 10 year wedding anniversary. We were married on a gorgeous October 1 day in Taos, New Mexico. The sunlight played its own character in this day of celebration. Thank you to @apharmakis for our incredible 📸the talented @terese_rose designed and sewed my wedding dress. Thank you to the wonderful Antonio Trujillo of San Fidel, NM for marrying us in such a moving ceremony and my wedding planner in chief @sinreservaciones Thank you to all my wonderful friends who made it out to our wedding, you all made it so special. Just some thoughts I needed to get off my chest because most of the time when I’m in the community I strive to be supportive, encouraging and careful to not bring people down with topics like this but I know people are feeling and thinking the same things I am right now. It’s hot and it’s making us all a little uncomfortable but we cannot lose hope or give in to the worst aspects of our selves. Please stand up to ICE, have the hard conversations with the people that are supporting the absurd, and strive to be a better global citizen ✌️🍄🫶 by @apowers82

These photos were taken during my post as the president of a football club. I had been carrying my @splcenter Against Racism and Against Fascism scarves for a few years and jumped at the opportunity to do a photoshoot with them. These photos hadn’t seen the light of day because of what felt like immense pressure not to “come out” using such phrases in a red state. Part of what attracted me to working in soccer was the grassroots community building required for a club. Grassroots means you go to the people…All the people. A football club has to stand for something. Maybe it’s excellence. Maybe it’s pride. Maybe it’s unity. To me, saying you’re anti-racist and/or anti-fascist IS bringing unity to the people, the majority of the people. If a minority of people somehow feel threatened by this language or scarf, then I’d suggest a healthy dose of mushrooms and counseling, not firings, arrests, or worse. Please be careful of the manipulation and saboteurs out there. There is great misinformation occurring throughout all corners of the web. Meet Uisce pronounced Ish-ka, our new pup! He’s a 10 month old smooth collie- retriever mutt. His name is an Irish Gaelic phrase Uisce beatha which means “water of life” otherwise known as Whiskey. Since he’s a butterscotch color and has Scottish roots, we thought the name was fitting. He’s smart as a whip, super athletic and fast, fast, fast. We adopted him from the @abqanimalwelfare Eastside shelter for FREE! He came in as a stray and had been adopted prior but returned after a week. On Saturday, January 18 we busted this little guy out of jail and came to find out someone had trained him very well. House and crate trained, he loves games, sits on command…. just a little rambunctious at times but why would anyone give up such a pup? Whatever the case, we are pleased to welcome Uisce into our family. It was not lost upon on us that Tinder had passed almost 10 months prior, right around the time little Uisce was born. The time we spent grieving and preparing for a new dog was just right. Finally getting around to posting our vacation pics from Sedona. Ashley and Pedro were state side and able to meet up. Sedona is always good to us. A time to recharge and slow down. This was our second New Year’s in Sedona and find it to be a great place to welcome in new energy. It’s a blessing to have dear old friends make time to meet up and help to feed the soul. Eight years ago, @colormeradcollage and I were at the oceti sakowin camp at Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to be of service to the water protectors and conduct interviews with leaders in their fight. We showed up election week and in fact were there on election night 2016. There was only one place you could get internet- Facebook Hill- and no one thought the election results would turn out what they were that night. We left on a very snowy day, the first snow of the season in fact when thousands of veterans showed up to camp in support of the water protectors efforts. These are just a few of hundreds of photos from that time which include actions, the deluge of light and sound weapons we faced everyday, snipers on the hill, the provocative saboteurs spreading disinformation throughout the camp of nearly 5,000 really opened my eyes up to what the state will do to protect corporate interests. We sat by the sacred fire, attended Red Road, anti-racism and women led ceremony. We sang, we cried, we had the most invigorating and inspiring conversations of a lifetime. I got super sick on the last day there and ended up in the med tent for hours- so thankful for the amazing volunteer paramedic crew onsite. I could write a whole book about my experience at Standing Rock but it left me motivated and inspired to do more for my community. I eventually came back with ideas and started several different groups and ultimately focused my life’s work on doing positive things for the community and the planet. I know times feel dark but use this time to find your voice and how you can best support the issues you care most about.

We took a little time for ourselves Saturday evening for glamping at @staykitfox 😍 I’ve been a huge fan of the brilliant minds behind this project, Jenn Kolker and Brandon Gregorie of @digandserve for years and finally got us out to Lamy, New Mexico to experience “Dine In the Wild” featuring one of our favorite Chef’s David Gaspar de Alba y @oni.abq The whole experience was incredible from the scenic drive to the high desert of Santa Fe to the check in to our lovely tent accommodations. Every detail of this experience had been curated and thought through by the brilliant minds and team of @staykitfox . We made friends as we dined communally and ate delicious courses of perfectly cooked veggies and a warming ramen that has me still thinking about it. The night was capped off with yuzu marshmallow s’mores. Happy Birthday to the love of my life, Malcolm June. Rosie had a fundraiser for her high school basketball team tonight and we got to celebrate together as a family. The nieces are always laughing and feeling like kids again. Truly some sweet moments tonight. by @apowers82
