The inaugural National Paraclimbing Cup held in Melbourne over the weekend by @sportclimbingaustralia was a shift!

A shift of gears for our sport in Australia in athlete representation, organisation, team spirit, and performance. It’s so incredible watching the Aus Para athletes grow and pull out top drawer climbing across the board. This event really demonstrated how much work has gone into development and the pursuit of improvement in everyone that pulled on.

A huge thank you to all involved in the setting team - the routes were 🤌🏻🤌🏻 and thank you to Russ Harrison, @vettiharrison, and @campbell_harrison547 for being such amazing advocates for what we do and helping to make this a shining example of what’s possible.
Also to @coach.alexmac for being the best coach a team could ask for ✊🏻

Happy to get an idea of where I’m at, and while the real work is just beginning, it’s also nice to see what’s coming together.

3 days in all - 1 National Para Cup, 2 days training camp with the best team @ausparaclimbingteam 🙏
We really showed up, worked hard, and it’s safe to say the commitment is world class.

I’ll try to keep up!

I want to say a HUGE thank you for all supporting me in the Go Fund Me.

This year I’ll bet attending the Korea and Japan World Cups and the road to qualifying for LA28 will mean needing to attend as many international events as possible in 2027.

If there’s one thing I can do well, it’s go deep, and work hard.
But knowing there’s friends and family at my shoulder lets me find reserves even when I’m fatigued and spent, it carries and it stokes the fire.

What I’m saying here is that I’m not alone and I can really feel that.
The refusal to let knock downs define who I am is what has brought me here, and given me the opportunity I never thought I’d have. Ever since I was a kid I’ve had this almost frustrating raw surplus of determination, and to be able to funnel that into one goal is something I feel extremely privileged to be able to do. All something you’ve helped make possible.

I will be doing all I can between now and 2028 to realise a dream.

The support from the community around me has held me up more times than I can count. And I want to honour that, and show you what that has meant to me.

If anyone wants to have a read of the Go Fund Me there’s a link in bio and if there’s ways I can give back, please suggest how I can help and I’m there!

Once again, a BIG thank you for getting behind this journey. It’s going to be hard work but that’s the thing I’m excited for most 💚 by @applep1e

Don’t ever invite me to play harmonica at a gig. I’ll accidentally disconnect the mic cord and probably hyperventilate.
Despite the technique of a dying cat, this was super fun with the @psychedashouseband early last year at the @wearepsychedas annual honorary Millsy shindig.
Keep a close eye on ticket releases for March this year! The line up is going to be mega 🤩

Go give them a follow and come and celebrate home grown premium acts.

I guarantee two things:
1. it will be the best day/night out you’ve had in a long time and;
2. I won’t play harmonica 👌 by @applep1e

This Q2 route for para (AL2) was pool room worthy at Nationals. Fumbled the dynamic part (on brand for me), but it climbed exceptionally well. Big nod to the setters on such class. taken in Urban Climb by @applep1e

How good is it that as competitors we have the privilege of climbing on some of the best set routes anywhere, and that they are set just for us to climb on. Up for a brief moment and then stripped down. When you think of it like that, it’s easy to feel extremely lucky.

The routes at the Australian National Championships were top tier, so a huge thanks to a stellar setting team @carlieclimbs @scottyclimbs et al, you know who you are and I hope you feel appreciated.

Got a shiny thing on a ribbon 🥇and it was a nice way to feel much better about a year that has been testing in so many ways.

We don’t go in circles, we grow in circles.

“I would not have come had I known the danger of light and joy” J.R.R Tolkien.

When I arrived in Seoul for the Paraclimbing World Championships, I was met with both. The light of community, the joy of sharing the wall with some the Aus team, and then, the sobering reality I would not compete.

The above quote reminds me that joy is never risk-free—it exposes us.

The harder thing is not the missed competition itself, but moving on from the beautiful moments—the training, the anticipation, the joy of being there—that linger long after the chance has slipped by.

Hannah Arendt said that beginnings are the essence of human freedom.

Seoul was not the end I wanted, but perhaps another piece of a new beginning.

Here’s to making the moments in between everything count ;) by @applep1e

When I had my external fixator on (big bird cage on my leg), I was laid up in a bed for a long time. During that time, someone close to me reached out to Adam Ondra to see if he might be willing to send a message in the hopes of cheering me up. To my surprise, for my birthday that year, he sent a a really nice message and told me to keep going, that this would only make me think about climbing in new ways.

I was leaving Seoul on Friday and having a sess at @theclimb_yangjae (top gym btw 👌) and I turn around to see the man himself. Ngl I had to take a moment.
It was a brief fist bump and chat about the ups and downs of comp climbing, but I had to let him know how much that message meant at the time, and how in a strange way, it lead me all the way to the world champs for para. So big cheers and thanks Adam.

Even though I’m walking away from this one without getting to pull onto the wall due to illness I still know where I was at and what I could have turned up with, and that’s a good feeling.

The team are absolutely crushing it rn, and there’s big things cooking on that front for sure!

There’s a funny thing I’ve always done, a kind of self afflicted tall-poppy syndrome. Not because I don’t want to grow, but because I’m afraid of cutting myself down. Which has had a strange way of working well in the past. The resetting of expectations to zero, and enjoying the surprise that comes with exceeding zero - not exactly a hard thing to do.
But as I’ve done this by pattern, in so many different ways, I’m starting to see it for what it is. Limiting.

I’m sitting on a plane, one of those rare and frankly uncanny places you get to sit with your mind for an overly extended period of time. You know, unravelling thought spaghetti in a human sardine cylinder hurtling through the sky - no better place.

I’m on my way to Seoul for the World Championship, in a team Australia shirt and observing this inner tug-a-war as objectively as possible. One side pulling on the, “be confident, be proud”, the other pulling toward the poppy field scythe - “don’t desire, don’t get invested.”

I saw a friend I hadn’t seen in 10 years yesterday, all full of cheer, presence, and openness. I was in a spiral from a foot slip in a comp simulation the day before, but his energy was hydrophobic to mine and it was a solvent I didn’t know I needed. It was a reminder that while silt can quickly muddy the glass of water, just keep adding water and huzzah, clear water.

It can be difficult when you work hard for something but that something never arrives, or when you furnish your goals with confidence and positivity, only to see it undone.

What’s interesting to me is that none of that mattered with my leg. When I was told it was going to be hard my response was “cool, I like that”. There were set backs, sure, but you pick it up and push again.

I don’t know why this feels different in this comp context, but I’m going to drink the self-belief cocktail with full acceptance of a possible hangover. I can see that it’s worth it.

Here’s to letting the poppy catch some sun.

Thanks to all that have filled me with the right psyche to get here, you know who you are! Especially Millsy #psychedasforever ✊🏻 by @applep1e

Earlier this year with the help of @lucas_corroto we were stoked to be able to get a bunch of our store ambassadors and friends together to put a little film together.
The idea was simple - film what we like doing, the highs and the lows, in the places we like going to. We hope you like it! ☺️

We want to say a HUGE thankyou to all the legends who were involved. 🤙
