We're building a tiny house in the Rocky Mountains...

and we designed it ourselves while we were still in college. Now, less than one year after graduation, it's finally starting! The house is in Twin Lakes, Colorado, just two hours away from where we live. And it's not just a tiny house - it's a destination, carefully designed to live in harmony with its breathtaking surroundings. Ground + Sky House is a small lodging used part-time as a short term rental, and part-time to serve a number of partnered non-profit groups. The project takes on two lenses through which to observe the earth: a “sky” volume for weightless living and a “ground” volume for a closer look.

We'll be documenting the whole thing and giving a behind-the-scenes look into the entire process, from start to finish. Follow us to see more!!

The first of the rusted metal for the Ground + Sky House is UP!! Out contractor has installed the pre-weathered roof after a week of prep work, a process which we highlight in this video.

We are super excited to see this material on the house for the first time. It marks an important milestone in the project, the first time one of the finish materials is installed!

This is the same material we will be using for the siding, which you’ll see in another video soon!

Twin Lakes Ground + Sky House exterior update!
The house is really starting to come together! Today, all of the windows, exterior doors, and the chimney are fully installed—bringing us one major step closer to having the building completely dried in and weather-proofed. Now that everything we showed you arriving in the last video is actually in place, we'll soon be able to shift our focus inside and begin bringing the interior to life.
It's exciting to see the vision becoming more tangible with each stage of construction. The newly framed views and exterior details are truly starting to define how the home connects to its surroundings, setting the perfect foundation for everything to come behind the walls.
Follow along as we continue documenting the journey.
Drop any questions below or let us know what you'd like to see next!

Twin Lakes Ground + Sky House electrical update!

The house is really starting to come together, rough electrical is now going in, bringing us one step closer to the spaces becoming fully functional. As we have said, once the house is dried in and weather proofed, we’ll be able to shift our focus inside and begin bringing the interior to life.

It’s exciting to see the vision becoming more tangible with each stage of construction. The windows and doors are helping define how the home will connect to its surroundings, while the work happening behind the walls is setting the foundation for everything to come.

Windows and doors have arrived! The Ground + Sky House is taking another big step toward completion.

The windows especially help define how the home will connect to its surroundings, bring in natural light, and shape the experience of each space.

It’s exciting to see the vision becoming more tangible as the building continues to come together. With each installation, the character of the home becomes a little more defined.

Follow along as we continue documenting every stage of the journey. Drop any questions below or let us know what you’d like to see next!

As seen in our last video, interior framing and rough plumbing are complete. The bathroom, kitchen, loft and meditation room are all taking shape. The roofing membrane has been installed and once windows arrive our entire interior will be weather proof!

Decking material on site and being installed! This view through the front door will eventually look at our fireplace at the far end of the house.

Front porch decking and roofing membrane above are installed.

Views from the meditation room out across Twin Lakes.

Side deck framing is complete and decking is being installed, this view is from above in our loft!

First boards on the side deck looking towards the lake. We're really excited for this particular area and the spectacular views it provides.

Interior framing is complete and rough utilities are being installed.
