For nights now, I’ve found myself crying before going to sleep. For months I’ve wanted nothing more than to read before bed, to study, to think. But by the time the day is over, my eyes simply close. The privilege of thinking has become a luxury.

It was while trying, often with difficulty, to carry forward a research project that I came across Rancière. In Proletarian Nights, he gathers statements, fragments, diaries and writings by workers from the end of the First Industrial Revolution: tailors, cabinet makers, seamstresses and scene painters, highly skilled artisans whose working lives left little room for thought. As Angela McRobbie writes, his reading of these texts has a tapestry-like form, weaving together anonymous and signed voices, each expressing unruly and fanciful yearnings and desires.

Reading those accounts, I couldn’t help wondering how much has really changed.

How can we reclaim spaces for questioning everything when even art schools increasingly train practitioners rather than thinkers? by @appocundriaa

Very happy to share CARLA through a new form. On the occasion of “No place for mannequins: Remaking the fashion archive” I presented a wallpaper and an unreleased video.

“Looking for mystical figures when you go to a place where you don’t know anyone” is on view at the UTS Gallery in Sydney from 12 February to 24 April.

This is not meant to be a nostalgic operation, but rather a celebration of the creative class and their socio ecological spirit of collaboration. It is a tribute to all the workers who are not at the after parties but are driven by their tensions.

Endless thanks to the wonderful curators @t_o_d_d_robinson and @ricardabg for their patience and vision. In Todd’s words: it remains deeply engaged with the power of fashion, its aesthetic forms and sociality, and to me at least also quite humorous in parts and charming.

Artworks and research Marco Marino
Video montage Marco Bollani ( @hocambiatonome_ )

Artists: Alix Higgins, D and K, Femke de Vries, Hansol Kim, Justine Woods, Kyra Mancktelow, Library of Unruly Fashion Practices with XEROXED, Marco Marino, Tim Hardy and Todd Robinson.

Thanks to Carla Sozzani, Eleonora De Chiara and IDEA Books. Special mention Filippo Leone Maria Biraghi.

Findings on eBay: handwritten messages on photo paper about Comme des Garçons pieces.

Found them on my Mac, tucked away in the ALLINONE folder — saved during research back in 2015. by @appocundriaa
