The 2026 Nigerian Podcast Index is out, and the numbers tell an interesting story.

The Index has grown from:
329 shows in 2025
604 shows in 2026
That's an 83% increase.

But here's the other side:
Active shows fell from 73.3% to 44.4%
55.3% are now classified as on hiatus
63.7% are hosted on Spotify for Creators
About 16% are diaspora-produced
Only 60.4% list a contact email

So, Nigerian podcasting is creating more shows. The bigger question is how many are able to keep publishing.

Full breakdown by @tonydoemedia

What does this tell us about the next stage of Nigerian podcasting?

Issue 25 is here, and this month we sit with @remiroy, writer, author, podcast host, and founder of PodGround, a community built for independent podcasters who are tired of creating alone.

Remi has spent years turning her own struggles into resources for others. From a podcast that did not work out to one that is changing how introverts see themselves.

In Issue 25, she talks about pain, purpose, community, and what it truly means to keep building when you do not yet have all the answers.
