When one master utility bill covers a whole building, which formula is actually fair for splitting it among tenants? Same $300 bill, same three units, six methods, six different splits, and one unit's share swings $50 on the method alone. The answer depends on the utility type. Linear hybrid counts every person the same. Weighted hybrid counts the second and third person less, because shared water use does not double. Same $300 bill, fairer split. Try the free calculator: aquasplit.app (link in bio).

Every month the water bill runs straight down the drain, and the owner pays it. Cross that line out instead. Split the master bill by formula and keep the income. Try the free calculator: aquasplit.app (link in bio).

Episode 3: Why counting heads still gets water wrong. Counting heads charges every person the same, but people in one home share water use, so the third person adds less than the first. Factored counts match how water is actually used. aquasplit.app, link in bio. Music: Happy Boy End Theme by Kevin MacLeod, licensed CC-BY.

Split it equally and everyone pays $100. But A has one person and C has three. The fair split: A $58.33, B $100, C $141.66. With the right method, everybody gets a fair bill. One master bill, six units, and no arguments about the math. Every invoice prints the exact allocation formula, and every resident can open the master bill it came from. That is what ends the "where did this number come from" calls.

Most RUBS bills show a tenant one thing: a number. No formula. No master bill. Nothing to check it against.

That is the whole fight in every RUBS thread, and it does not have to exist. Every AquaSplit invoice prints the exact allocation formula, and every resident can open the master bill it came from. If the math is on the bill, there is nothing left to argue about.

A $1,200/month water bill you eat is not just $1,200.

It is $14,400 a year of NOI. At a 6% cap rate, that is $240,000 of property value leaking out of a faucet.

Split the master bill by formula. Zero hardware. 90-day free trial.

What if the RUBS charge is the fairest line on your rent?

No RUBS line does not mean free utilities. The cost gets baked into your rent. Same dollars, zero visibility. And the real enemy is a RUBS bill with no math. Always ask for the formula and the master bill.

One water meter. Six tenants. Who pays what? That is the question RUBS answers.

RUBS (Ratio Utility Billing System) splits one master utility bill across units by formula: occupancy, square footage, or both. No submeters, no hardware, no guesswork.

The key: the formula belongs on the invoice, where every resident can see it and check it.
