This photo has a bit of a story behind it. I had been commissioned to paint a painting of Bo-Kaap with Lion’s Head in it. so I set out to take some reference photos. After peddling around on my bike I’d snapped a few photos but nothing that felt quite right. I tried climbing a lamp pole a tree and an electricity box but nothing turned out so well so I started knocking on doors to see if anyone would let me up onto their balcony. On this occasion a friendly old lady of about 70 years opened the door. I explained to her what I was about for a few minutes and she kindly guided me through her clearly homely heritage house upstairs to the balcony. We chatted for ages about the Bo-Kaap community & much more while I got this photo. All in all was a pleasant experience.
