Honestly, nothing could’ve prepared me for my first trip to Nicaragua. Growing up first born American raised by two immigrants, from two different countries had given me an identity crisis that I never understood or really vocalized. As a child my heritage was constantly pulling at me in three different directions. Being here for the first time was the most beautiful and romantic thing, I fit in even though I didn’t necessarily belong. I couldn’t fathom the fact that something I’ve never seen felt familiar, felt like home. This country recognized me and I recognized this country, not through encounter but through something invisible. The last slide in this post is a perfect metaphor for how I felt being here with my parents and moving through life with the both of them. taken in Managua, Nicaragua by @arceyutzack
