POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At the moment, there’s a significant amount of gunfire around me. No, not like urban violence, not like Mideast war, just a farmer out shooting. At times, I think it might be shooting at something but this evening it seems to be target practice, maybe? Just boom, boom, boom. Tonight‘s gunshot seems to be from the area of the rational guy. Many times it seems to come from the area of the irrational guy. Sometimes it seems to come from the direction of the professional guy.

In the wee hours of the morning, my security lights come on or my field camera beeps on my phone with a new shot. I generally ignore it, feeling safe. Sometimes I might get up and look out. The rain has stopped, the clouds have opened to the sun, and the temperature has suddenly spiked. The air is full of the songs of the many of thr birds present here in the Spring: the Song Sparrow, the American Redstart, the Chipping Sparrow, the Brown Thrasher, the Gray Catbird, this evening, and many more in the mornings. And the Eastern Phoebe continues to nest in compromised places. They are actively breeding, and nesting under the eaves of the house, one over by the kitchen window and another one or more under the front porch eaves.. That's a little frustrating for me, and I expect it will be for them. My activity in and out on the front porch will be an interruption. And already my activity in the kitchen seems to be problematic. When they hear me, they seem to drop directly down from the nest before flying off and when they return they hover for a moment looking at me through the window trying to figure out what to do, whether I'm friend or foe. I wish I could tell them. by @archizoo

In the meantime, I continue to feel pleasure with the small things in my life today. On the eve of a day – a week? a month? four years? – of high anxiety, I'm considering the colors of alstroemeria on the counter, the yellowing leaves of the Katsura in the drizzly background, the bananas in the bowl, the girls, the bear ... by @archizoo
