I attended the @firstfilmsfestival last year, where I discovered the incredible Mad Bills to Pay, and I’ve been looking forward to its return ever since. It’s such an important festival for championing emerging filmmakers, with every film in the programme marking a director’s debut, alongside retrospective screenings that revisit the first films of established filmmakers.

This year’s lineup is once again packed with exciting debuts that are well worth your time. It all takes place at @ourgoldenage and the @sydneyoperahouse from October 27 to November 1. See you there 🫡.

A little late to the party with this one, but this month’s Brollie Bangers is all about putting a spring in your step. With the season in full swing, we’re celebrating films that bring a little joy into your life in one way or another. These are movies made for good times. And as always, they’re all completely free to stream on @watchbrollie .

See you next month for another round of recommendations. by @areelobsession

Gutted to be away for this one, but if you’re in Sydney this weekend, there’s only one place to be and that is Mothership Studios for Lost Weekend 26, hosted by the legends @pinkflamingocinema and @staticvisionau

It’s a full weekend of movies on one screen with zero clashes, so strap yourself in like Malcolm McDowell in Clockwork Orange and get freaky. Hit the link in their bios to secure your tickets and settle in for an epic weekend of cinema.

Here are 5 recommendations from us here at Reel Obsession, but if I was you, I’d get a full pass and soak up all the wonderful weirdness.

The @sydneyundergroundfilmfest is done and dusted for another year, and what a celebration of cinema it was. It was amazing to see such a strong turnout, with plenty of sold-out sessions and audiences who were well and truly up for the ride. It made the festival’s 20th anniversary feel all the more special. What a blast.

Then, of course, there were the films. What a lineup we had this year. Every film brought something weird and wonderful to the table, and here at Reel Obsession we’ve put together a list of our favourites. That said, the entire programme is well worth seeking out.

I love this festival so much, and it was a real honour to be part of the programming team this year. I already can’t wait to do it all again next year.

Until then, stay weird!
