EBOLA AWARENESS: STAY INFORMED, STAY SAFE Ebola is an infectious disease that spreads through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person who has developed symptoms, or through contaminated objects and surfaces. Here are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and others: Wash your hands regularly with soap and clean water. Avoid direct contact with the blood and body fluids of anyone suspected or confirmed to have Ebola. Avoid handling sick or dead wild animals. Be alert to symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache and muscle pain, especially after a possible exposure. Seek medical advice promptly if you develop symptoms following a possible exposure and inform health workers about your concerns. Getting accurate information and following guidance from public health authorities can help reduce the risk of infection. ENGAGING MAI ANGWAS AND COMMUNITY INFLUENCERS TO ADVANCE FAMILY PLANNING/CHILDBIRTH SPACING AND SAVE MOTHERS’ LIVES The Nasarawa State Government, with support from ARFH and partners, held Male Engagement Forums in Kwarra community, Wamba LGA, and Angwan Katsina, Karu LGA, through the CODSAiN project. The forums aimed to strengthen demand generation for family planning and childbirth spacing and address barriers to accessing information and services. The forums brought together Mai Angwas, men, traditional and religious leaders, youth representatives, community-based health workers (COPRPs) and health personnel to address misconceptions, promote informed birth-spacing decisions and encourage respectful communication between couples. Beyond engaging community influencers, the activities also mobilized women and their partners through outreaches to seek accurate family planning information and access services from trained health providers. Family planning and childbirth spacing are shared responsibilities. NOTHING ABOUT US WITHOUT US: AMPLIFYING ADOLESCENTS’ VOICES FOR HEALTH EQUITY Every adolescent deserves a safe space to ask questions, access accurate health information and make informed decisions about their well-being. In commemoration of International Adolescent Health Week 2026, themed “Nothing About Us Without Us: Power, Voice and Health Equity for All Adolescents,” the Nasarawa State Government, with support from ARFH and partners, facilitated safe-space dialogues with adolescents, parents and community leaders in Doma and Lafia LGAs. The sessions promoted open discussions on puberty, sexual and reproductive health, pregnancy prevention, HIV/STI prevention, personal hygiene, self-care, and access to appropriate health services and referrals. WORLD CONTRACEPTION DAY 2026 No Barriers, Just Choices: Contraceptive Access Now Everyone should have the opportunity to decide if, when and how many children to have, with access to accurate information, a range of contraceptive options and quality, respectful services. At @arfhng, in collaboration with government, health workers, communities, development partners and other stakeholders, we are strengthening access to modern contraceptives across Gombe, Kano, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau and Yobe States. Through the Community-Oriented DMPA-SC Self-Injection Acceleration in Nigeria (CODSAiN) project, supported by the @gatesfoundation, we are working to: • Expand access to contraceptive options and informed counselling • Bring services closer to underserved communities • Support self-care as part of the broader method mix • Strengthen health worker and community provider capacity • Improve commodity availability and supply systems • Use data, digital tools, radio and community engagement to address information gaps and misconceptions • Promote sustainable financing and government ownership Sustainable contraceptive access requires more than commodities. It requires informed choice, quality services, reliable supplies and sustained investment.
