When cultural history is under threat, every image becomes a lifeline: a witness, a storyteller and a guardian of collective memory.

This autumn, argos presents a new exhibition bringing together rarely seen installations, rediscovered tapes, experimental films and early digital works from Iran. Together, they bring more than three decades of audiovisual art into view.

Across two thematic constellations, artists use moving images and archives to revisit histories, engage with changing landscapes and keep stories in circulation.

Save the date and join us for the opening:

A biiiiiig thank you to everyone who knocked down our doors for the opening of What the Land Remembers — Counter-Archives from Iran! 💖👀 it was wonderful seeing so many familiar and new faces that filled the rooms with curiosity, conversation and cheer aplenty.

Also a warm word of thanks to the Iranian artists whose work is at the heart of this exhibition, and to those who travelled to join us in person — your presence made the evening all the more meaningful. Thank you as well to DJ Zan for the soundtrack.

The exhibition is open Thursday-Sunday, 11:00-18:00. Find the full programme on our website.

This Saturday, we're staying open after hours for a nocturne!

Visit the exhibition until 21:00, have a drink at the bar, and join us at 19:00 for a live expanded cinema performance by Raha Raissnia and Charles Curtis.

Raissnia projects and layers analogue moving and still images from nocturnal walks in New York, while Curtis performs live on cello and electronics. The images overlap, shift and change throughout the performance, with sound and projection responding to each other in real time.

Saturday 3 October
Nocturne: 18:00—21:00
Performance: 19:00—20:10

One ticket includes both the exhibition and performance: €10 recommended / €5 / €15 — pay what feels right. taken in argos by @argos_arts

🌪️ This Friday we're kicking off the exhibition opening with a DJ set by ZAN زن, the sound project of Iranian multidisciplinary artist Kimia Nasirian.

Alongside her DJ practice, she develops sound journeys and listening sessions that explore deep listening, collective experience, and the emotional layers of sound. Her work moves across different formats, always connecting music, memory, and diasporic narratives.

For this event, she will be playing a progressive set that gradually moves towards a more dance-oriented energy, blending Iranian music with electronic and electro sounds, and building a journey from immersive listening into rhythm and movement.

@argos_arts , @levelfive.brussels, @rendezvousbxl and @kunstenpunt invited a group of artists and art-workers in Brussels, to reflect on questions about the future of the arts field and to exchange ideas how can we strengthen collaboration between artists, organisations and institutions.

Thanks to everyone that attended the conversation and to Rendez-Vous for hosting.

📺 This month’s argos TV selection aligns with the themes of defiance and resistance in our new exhibition What the Land Remembers — Counter-Archives from Iran, opening this Friday.

Esther Johnson’s Liberation Radio (2021) revisits the story of American military deserters who used magnetic tape, pop music, and political rhetoric to persuade other American servicemen to desert.
