“Olufemi” 48 x 36in, oil painting on canvas, 2022

Olufemi is my dad, who recently passed away in December of last year. I’ve been grieving very very privately and am so grateful of having a solid support system (friends and family) who’ve really been there for me 🙏🏾.

This is a super sentimental piece and just wanted to honor and dedicate my very first large painting to him. I can look back on this and remember that it all started with him and that’s literally the push I need to keep going.

I just hope you’re proud and I miss you.

“It’s Been a While”

Ever felt a gaze where the world fades away even for just a fleeting moment, and it’s just you two, seeing each other as if you’re truly the only ones who matter?

SN: Took me a whiiiile to find the motivation to finish this, let alone even paint for various reasons. Life happens though and I gave myself grace. Just happy to have found that spark again to finish and now I can focus on exploring other ideas and bring them to life, all while sharing the journey 💛

“Before the Street Lights Come On”

A time when connection was built outside, face to face, through scraped knees, shared music, and time spent in neighborhoods that still felt alive. Community felt less transactional then and we valued each other beyond image, beyond status, beyond what could be gained from one another.

I just wanted to paint the nostalgia of those early evenings when we were kids. Warm air sitting on your skin, voices carrying through the block, bikes cutting through the street, the kind of childhood bonds that felt like family, and that familiar rush of racing home before the street lights came on 🚲💨 taken in Nostalgia by @ari.moren
