Just a little night time practice for your ears this morning. Here, I’m practicing the opening of the Mozart Sonata for Violin and Piano in B flat major K 454 🎼🎻.

As my college violin teacher said, “His name is Mozart, because he is the most hard composer” and it still rings true 😬😅.

We have quite the line up of stuff in store for you this spooky season! Keep your eyes on this space 👻🕸️!

a musical postcard from a wonderful week and a half with the Grand Canyon Music Festival and the Native American Composers Apprentice Project! 💌 congratulations to all the fabulous student composers whose works we premiered last night, their wonderful mentors @sage_bond007 and @michaelbegaymusic — whose music we premiered last weekend — and all who made this festival and program possible! 💙

Happy first birthday to our Mr. Moo, the second cat we swore we’d never bring home 🐮🖤 Moo has never met a stranger and keeps us laughing (and occasionally tearing our hair out) every day. So endlessly grateful to our family, friends, and neighbors who cuddle him and Roxy while we’re off making music all the time: this day is bittersweet with us both on the road, but your whole family loves you Mistor (yes, even sister Roxy) and we love how much you love everyone you lay eyes on! See you home later tonight with a big bday treat 😍🐟🎂 by @arielhorowitzviolin

Thirty. 🌿

This birthday has me feeling especially reflective.

The past few years and especially this season, have felt heavy. The political climate has been difficult to navigate, not just for me, but for so many people I love. There are days when finding a sense of sanity, hope, or steadiness feels like its own practice.

What has carried me through has been community. Joy. Connection. My creative family. The people who remind me that making art is an act of resilience and that being together matters.

I’ve also been reminding myself that learning is a continuum. I don’t have to know everything today. I can keep listening, growing, asking better questions and showing up with an open heart.

Ten years ago, I founded the Heartbeat Music Project, a music program dedicated to providing access to music education for Diné students in grades K–12. Over the last decade, I’ve watched children grow into young adults, families find deeper connection through music and now we’re celebrating alumni earning scholarships to world-renowned universities. It’s one of the greatest honors of my life to witness what happens when young people are given access, encouragement and a place to belong.

As I step into this new decade, I’m also sharing something deeply personal: little snippets of new music, with the working title, “Know It All”. These songs were born from all of these reflection - the grief, the hope, the questions, the joy. I can’t wait to share more with you soon.

To celebrate both this birthday and the Heartbeat Music Project’s 10th anniversary, we’re launching a week-long fundraiser with a generous matching donor. Every gift will go twice as far to help expand access to music education and create more spaces for joy, connection, creativity and belonging for Diné youth.

If my music or this community has ever meant something to you, I’d be so grateful if you’d consider donating or simply sharing our fundraiser with someone who might.

Here’s to continuing to learn, to create, and to choose one another.

Thank you for being here. 🤍
